Wonderful.

I love the post-processing. How did you do it?!

MCG0603 In reply to wchild [2010-04-09 19:38:18 +0000 UTC]

Hmm. I didn't apply too much post-processing on this. Got down with the saturation and added some contrast increasing curves. That's basically it. For a very intense effect i add a channelmixer layer in monochrome mode aon a low fill level.

This effect here is created by a professional flash i used.

Thank you!

Nela1812 In reply to MCG0603 [2009-12-01 13:42:04 +0000 UTC]

MCG0603 In reply to Nela1812 [2009-12-01 15:40:01 +0000 UTC]

MCG0603 In reply to de-JTC [2009-11-24 18:02:17 +0000 UTC]

So find ichs nen Tuck eingängiger?

MCG0603 In reply to de-JTC [2009-11-24 18:20:54 +0000 UTC]

The lighting is really soft and natural. It might have been though to do, but it was worth it.
Also she's very pretty and the make-up is great too.

Direct Sunlight from the right and softbox flash from the left top.
Thank you very much!!
And hell yes, the person who did the Makeup was a real discover - will do the next shootings with her.

i really like your lighting. i have a question - i was about to buy some flashes, the big ones, like bowens, profoto etc. but then i came up with the idea of buying something like sb800, 900, 600 etc (i have a nikon) which are more portable and they run on AA batteries. so what would you suggest me, am I missing something here, or are these flashguns just as good and powerful (for photographing people)
thanks

MCG0603 In reply to AzzQim [2009-11-23 21:19:01 +0000 UTC]

And it really was a tough job to do..

I own to Elinchrom D-Lite 2. 200Ws. And an Innovatronix accu for the outdoor work. For doing professional work you will need something like this. no systemflashes will bring the power. and first of all- you can't form the light with em..

AzzQim In reply to MCG0603 [2009-11-24 09:02:37 +0000 UTC]

well yeah im really kinda confused since I see many photos like this [link] and this [link] which really gets me wondering. as i said i would use it for people, nothing bigger, but i really don't know now how much power do i need. judging from the above photos, speedlights are enough?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MCG0603 In reply to AzzQim [2009-11-24 18:57:20 +0000 UTC]

Well. It's a matter of how many you need. If you want to do a long shooting with hoghpowered flashs in direct sunlight in summer and don't wnat to change batteries every 50 shots and waiting 20 second to recover you need professional equipment. But if you only do it from time to time to try speedlights with added softbox etc. should be ok.

AzzQim In reply to MCG0603 [2009-11-25 16:39:44 +0000 UTC]

well yeah that's what I've been thinking. obivously if you're a pro, you need to get some proper equipment and powepacks, but then again if I were I'd be making loads of money, so that really wouldn't be an issue thanks for the info, I'll go with some decent small flashes, I think photos will be great

BTW what do you use to power your dlites?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MCG0603 In reply to AzzQim [2009-11-25 21:30:37 +0000 UTC]

Before i bought thise Studio / pro flashs, i used an extern flashlight, too. something like speedlites.. But the effect isn't really the same.

I use an innovatronix powerpack. Really heavy (about 10kg) but with two standard sockets (220V e.g.) it delivers enough power to get up to 2000 flashes with a 800WS flash at full power. Well. i use the 200WS.. so really enough power.. 14 AH
But thats for outdoors. For indoors just plug it into the power socket.

de-JTC In reply to AzzQim [2009-11-23 21:11:39 +0000 UTC]

The key-question is: how much power do you need?
Are you often shooting in direct sunlight, or do you even need to overpower it?
Are you working with setups that would make a "line of sight" between camera and flash impossible?
How much portability do you need?
How much money do you want to spend?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

AzzQim In reply to de-JTC [2009-11-24 09:07:49 +0000 UTC]

i don't know how much power, that's the question welli'll be using it for people, outdoors too, probably without the need to overpower sun. as for the line of sight: i was considering something like a pocket wizard (or skyports) but that remains to be seen, I can buy that later on. portability is somewhat of an issue, well I wouldn't be running around shooting celebrities or weddings, but I see that ranger quadras are quite nice for that as for the money: obviously I'd like to spend as little as possible, though I don't want to buy the crummies plastic fantastic crap or a product that will not be powerful enough, since I'll be spending more at the end replacing them. as far as the big flashes go (elinchrom etc) I guess I would have to start at around 900 EUR.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

de-JTC In reply to AzzQim [2009-11-24 12:42:25 +0000 UTC]

Well... the problem is that batteries for the big flashes (if you like buying good brands etc) start at 1.5k - that's some hefty amount of money!
If you already have a Nikon flash (SB 800, 900, 600) then buy a radio trigger and see how far you get with this combination - if you need more lights buy a second one (SB 600). This isn't too much money and will give you at least a 2 lights setup and you can, if you decide to buy a big set, still use the SB 600 as a backup flash - Check out my flash pics - they are all lit using 1 SB 800 and 2 SB 600 - triggered with infrared.

AzzQim In reply to de-JTC [2009-11-25 16:40:24 +0000 UTC]

ditto. So I'm totally going now for some small flashes and as you've said, they can still be used later if I buy big lights. thanks!
