A bit of headcanon come to life.What DID happen to the Element of Magic on the night of Luna's banishment? The other five were found on the pedestal, but petrified in place, yet Magic was gone until Twilight managed to remake it.
And then it hit me. Only one pony would know. And she, by her own admission is "no longer able to use the elements". So I took the most extreme reading of that and came to this conlclusion: "Celestia broke it." And then I had to draw that.
It's been way too long since I uploaded anything finished. Been drawing practice sketches, but never took one all the way to done. Finally, here's an upload from me.

that is more than a bit of a leap. from the looks of it, it was sealed inside of the sphere to begin with.
more than likely what she meant was that the elements had bonded with the mane six. they had chosen new bearers. thuse she was disconnected from them.

It is a rather big leap, I'll admit, but the elements can be used by others than the wielders without that breaking the bond. In the Nightmare Rarity comic arc, Spike stood in for Rarity as Generosity, and of course Celestia using all six, despite seen using just three of them against Discord.
I mean, as of the Season 4 finale, things are as you say. The gems are gone, the power is in the Mane 6 now, but that's a new development.

Magic is friendship. Luna and Celestia's sisterly friendship was enough to power the elements with magic however when Luna broke that friendship then Celestia had to use them without friendship. It is my belief that she used them without that magical spark by shear will power and because they are not meant to be used that way; she lost any power to use them ever again. Sacrificing her future role as a bearer of Harmony for two reasons.
1.to save the kingdom
2. and to create a path for her sisters redemptionΒ .Β

That's an interesting way to look at it, too. My headcanon on Twilight's Element of Magic is that it's not quite the same as the original as hers was created with a spark of friendship. Which is why it could purify Nightmare Moon instead of sealing her away once more. Of course, both flavors did petrify Discord, so... The Elements of Harmony are weird.

Thanks! I totally eyeballed the light on the element. I have no idea if it makes any sense like that, but it just looked neat, so I stopped tweaking it. Totally on accident. The trick next time is doing it again on purpose.
