Do you happen to think this design could be made out of wood and if so could hold up to combat and role playing?

Actually poplar is a lightweight and durable wood that takes carving easily. Granted you don't slam it against a bunch of trees, I don't see it taking much damage

I use White Pine for my crafting and I'm more concerned really about the handle, also I never hit trees with wooden weapons, more of other wooden weapons or bees.

Oh I was actually joking about the trees haha, I can't imagine too many people really doing that. Poplar is very similar to pine, I think it just has less grain.

Is it cheaper and can be found at Home Depot? Also you didn't answer my concern about the handle, it looks like with the size of the blade and the handle only being connected on the lower side it'd pop clean off with the most normal of swings?

I don't know about it being cheaper, it's normally about $4 a foot. To keep the handle strong I make the whole thing out out one piece of wood, and it's reinforced by the layers of wood on the handle. However, if you're still worried about strength, I could always make it from oak, which is stronger, but the grain would be harder to hide. The good thing is you'd be hard pressed to break it

Alright, I was just curious because it looks like a weapon I wouldn't mind trying to make myself. Oak is pretty expensive though, so is mahogany. Would the grain possibly be hidden if you used a fine grit sand paper?

Yea, and sealing the wood with oil-based polyurothane will help hide it all. I've used oak plenty, it's just heavy and hard to carve, but the end result can look great

And it's also extremely durable yes?

meanlilkitty In reply to DangVietMichael [2013-03-27 07:54:12 +0000 UTC]

Hello and thank you for your interest! I charged $150 for this sword, plus s&h. I made this out of poplar wood, which is a strong and lightweight wood that takes carving very well. I accept Paypal and am willing to take the fee in two payments, half up front and the other half upon completion. As a part of my services I can also share progress shots with you so you can see how it's developing and provide any input that you may have. Let me know if this works for you!

Thats perfect. The person I commissioned to make my emil's sword bailed last second. I'll get back to you in 1 week when I have the money. Need to find a caliburn/excalibur for a birthday present for a friend this week.

No specific time. When I mean last second I mean the con has past but I'm still inlove with that sword in general. Gotta have it.

wooooooooooooooow *---* Your works are so awesome. Have you made any tutorials about weapon's crafting? 'cause i'd love to learn from your techniques

meanlilkitty In reply to StierL [2013-01-09 06:23:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! So far I really only have two tutorials up I believe, one on how to make the San mask and one for the night elf bow. However I have several more on instructables.com. I will think about doing more tutorials in the future, in the meantime if you have any questions, let me know and I'll be happy to advice!

Awesome, best one of I've seen!
I wanted to make one for myself a long time ago, but I was afraid that the handle was snap off...How does it feel using poplar? Any fears of it breaking?
(Also, the character's name is Emil...You somehow got it backwards? xD)

XD hahahaha I was so tired last night! But yea, I love poplar, its what most of my swords are made of nowadays. Its lightweight, durable, and a helluva lot easier to carve than oak. Not to mention it looses wood texture very quickly. It can be expensive, but def worth it
