Just a little headcanon of mine, in regards to a couple of my all-time favorite Sonic Characters.
Gamma 'dies' at the end of his storyline, right? He let's Beta get a fatal shot on him in order to release his own trapped Flickie.
But, the thing is, he does appear in other games.
My theory is that he was found and repaired after the events of Sonic Adventure, and simply chose to 'stay home' so to speak.
He wouldn't be the first robot to do this, so it's not that far fetched. Gemerl was also killed, repaired, and then moved on to a quiet life as a background character.
And think about it. Amy, at the end of her storyline, has her final battle in the same arena where Gamma fought Beta.
She goes to the Egg Carrier, defeats Zero, and even gets to meet the Flickies that were inside the afore mentioned Gamma and Beta!
What if she found Gamma's broken body and, recognizing him as her friend, called Tails to repair him?
What if Tails rebuilt him to be powered by a Chaos Drive, allowing Gamma to live without the guilt of keeping a small animal imprisoned within himself? Maybe he'd even fit Gamma with two hands instead of just one, making it easier for him to interact with people and objects, and who knows what sort of upgrades Tails could give him?

It's wishful thinking, but I like to believe that Gamma survived.
We just don't see him because he's with Gemerl, keeping the homefront safe while everyone else is out fighting Eggman.
