Description
[link]Take a look at the link if you have no idea what this is.
Anyways, this is my Shade, an emulated version of my alarm clock.
tick, tock, tick, tick, tock,
In the morning you get a shock,
It's very early, five o'clock,
But what can I say,
I'm just a CLOCK!!!
Anyways, onto personality, She's a little nutty, so to speak. She ticks all the time, and at the base of her horn/ear thingies, there's two large bells, when she's angry she rings. She's not exactly insane, but she's a lee-tle touched. (You would be too if you had a constant ticking noise that you couldn't stop in your head!) In back, she has a set of dials (?) that somewhat control the amount of movement that she's allowed. The main one controls a lot of her energy, and thus requires her to be wound occasionally. The another controls the speed at which she moves, and yet another controls the clock on her chest. The last one she has no idea what it does, only she knows something bad'll happen if it's wound up entirely. *tictictictictictic.....*
As far as her tail goes, the ends are prehensile. You can easily guess what I based them off of.

I was messing with the idea a little bit, and it's rather interesting to me. I wondered what a reptilian shade would look like, so I got busy with the idea. I needed something to emulate, and for some reason I imagined my clock as looking like that. (I have one of those reaaaaaaaally old fashioned clocks that you have to wind instead of using batteries. ) I like how this turned out, especially the horn/ear thingies.
I still need to think of a name....
I was wondering, what is their community like? (Meaning, do they live in groups, alone, Etc.)

The idea of a reptilian Shade is wonderful!
I was truly blown away at the design and concept (and that sounds like one helluva clock thar)
Most Shades live alone, or in pairs/trios. Some will become attached to people and act as their most loyal of companions.

I had to mess with it a little in order to fit to the design that I had in my head. Probably my favorite concept is the dials, she protects them with her life, for if those get mixed up, then the majority of her workings goes plunk.... In particular, there's a little slit on her back with a metal bit inside. If the metal bit is turned too far to the right, then she goes extreeeeeeemely fast, and needs to be wound very frequently. However, if it heads too far to the left, then she slows down completely, to the point where it's like someone put her in slow motion.
Still need a name, any ideas?
I keep on imagining the emulated shades as living perhaps in small colonies, especially if the owner has a lotta shtuff around the house.
Speaking of which, are emulated shades bound in anyway to the items they emulated?

That's incredible! I've barely explained everything about Shades, and yet you already fit in most of the pieces...extraordinary work, I should say. The details are nice
Hmm name.... Ticker (or Ticka' )
Emulated Shades CAN thrive in large groups...but usually only when a food source is abundant
In ways...here's an example: a Shade that emulated a book.
This Shade will be filled with every bit of knowledge the book it emulated provides, it'll have physical characteristics themed in the manner of a book, and it will tend to hover near that book they copied.

Really?
I imagine that due to her somewhat self destructive nature (If the main dial isn't wound, then she eventually stops working, doesn't mean she dies.) she'd have to live with someone, despite saying that she doesn't like people or shades too much. She's somewhat solitary, mostly because she's a little off her rocker. ("You'd be too if you had a constant ticking in your ears that you couldn't stop!")
Sounds good!^.^
And how animalistic are they?
Say, If the book were destroyed, would the shade go with it?

Yus. :3
That makes sense
XD
Cool!
It varies...some are very animalistic, others can be almost human
No...though if the Shade had formed an attachment, it may mope for awhile

I also kept on thinking, how big are they? Better yet:
Tail:
Body:
Arms/legs:
Adult:
Child:
Young:
This is the basic set up that I use for my characters to find measurements. (They don't have to be exact. If you don't know, try and give me the basic idea.)
I kept on thinking......... I was gonna write a few stories using ticker, and I was thinking..... any ideas for an electric style shade?
Lol. I keep on thinking that things like hauntings and such would really just be the work of a bunch of mischievous shades. Like the old piano gag where the piano plays by itself.....
Scared person: AHHHHHHH! THE WORK OF GHOSTS!!*pushes piano out of second story window.*
Piano shade:
And henceforth, a lotta mysteries were explained.

A Shade's tail can vary in length...some don't even have tails
A Shade's length is anywhere from 6 to 18 inches
The arms and legs are long, and coordinate with the size of the body
Young Shades are small (usually under 6 inches)
Child Shades are actually embryonic in a sense *there's a chart for Shade growth coming soon to you!*
Hehe electricity? I could draw that >:3
Actually, Shades can make themselves invisible ^^
Some really just thrive on terrifying the unsuspected

Thanks!
What I mean is, What I'm looking for is one that's sleek and modern, like a computer or something, I dunno, I'm still trying to think of ideas.....
Cool. Lol, I bet that explains a lotta things unexplainable, like the stories of ghost hauntings ("Lets go mess with some humies!"), unexplained lights (firefly shades), people hearing things ("Come to me human! Embrace your fleeting desire!!!!"), and unexplained massive power surges. ("Let's see if you can live without your precious electronics now!")
I wonder..............
