Description
To understand this, look up the TMNT short: "Teenage Mecha Ninja Turtles"
Basically, the short takes a look at a possible future
in New York City, in the year 2090.
Anthropomorphic Animals now co-exist with humans,
and advanced robotic technology is the norm.
STILL, not everything has changed. Even in the future,
New York has a crime problem (in this case, a gang of Hyena and Wolf bank robbers.)
Since the original Ninja Turtles are now old, or dead.
New York is instead protected by a new team of ninja vilgilantes.
Who are revealed to be just regular human teenagers in mech suits
modeled after the original ninja turtles.
And, there Ninja Master??..Non other than a now elderly 'Michaelangelo'
Okay, let's get real. In a scenario where any one of the Turtles
were to take Master Splinter's place as the sagely ninja master.
Did ANYONE even half expect Mikey to be that turtle??
It's so odd, It's almost awesome.
Mikey, the goof-off, and screw-up.
Mikey, the turtle who NEVER took anything seriously.
Mikey, the Turtle who put the 'TEENAGE' in 'Teenager Mutant Ninja Turtles.'
It's weird imagining HIM being anyone's Sensei.
(and, to be fair. the NEW team haven't yet grasped the art of 'teamwork', yet.)
But, somehow I like this scenario.
and, it's left me with even MORE questions..
Like, what on earth happened to Leo, Donnie, and Ralph!?
(And, for that matter April, or Casey.)
What's the story of these new kids??
How did they get together as a team, and WHY?
GOD, this is such a great idea for a spinoff.
I'd hate to see it go to waste on just ONE short

After watching that short, I'm somehow convinced one of those kids is his great-great nephew.

I remember a friend of mine sharing this short with me on Discord, it was a rather interesting take on the Ninja Turtles mythos, though normally I'd expect Leonardo to be the one to take the place of the mentor to the next generation of ninjas. On the other hand, it does show how much the turtles have matured over the years.
Would I say the other turtles are dead though, hard to say, since certain species of turtles do have rather long lifespans.

The max total of the Turtle's lifespan is 100 Years.
But, given the Ninja Turtles are Box Turtles, then it is possible their bare minimum lifespan is 50.
(And, that is presuming their mutation into Anthropoids hasn't affected their lifespan,
so it could very well be longer than that. Even surpassing the 100 benchmark.)
If the other Turtles aren't dead, then they might be Masters of their own Dojos.
And, this short only showed us Mikey's apprentices.

I loved this short, no one would expect Mikey to be the sensei and that's what made it awesome. Mikey maybe the fun loving goofy turtle but he's also the most sociable. I wish this was a full series so we could flesh out the characters and setting and maybe find out what happened to the other Turtles and their friends. Let's see.... Mikey's the new Sensei, So that must mean Donnie created the suits, Leo might be on another journey and Raph... ?... See this is why we need a series.

agreed that is too much of a good spin-off concept to just end in ONE short, they should play the "ambivalent" card and while not directly adressing wether is cannon future or not just go with it and world-build around a "TMNT 2090 timeline" XD
also i was half expecting Donatello to be the new master...what? he COULD'VE build specialized mecha turtle suits, still Michelangelo being the master is cool since you know he'll do things differently from Splinter (nothing against Splinter he is AWESOME as a teacher and father figure) so not only is a brand new team with new dinamics, but a brand new master to lead them differently, feels so much like their own thing instead of chasing too strongly/close to the original TMNT legacy, loved it!

saw raph had his own ninjas in a small town in the south west and he killed the leader of a biker gang. donnie is rich and leo is most likely in japan

Actually this can be explained a little in one of the earlier episodes of the 2012 series. In the episode the turtles had to face a scientist who gains the ability to read minds of others and in it Splinter was trying to explain a strategy to his sons to empty their minds and use their abilities without thought. One example is that Mikey can use his ninja abilities without needing to think or focus on them, it just comes very naturally to him. So even though he is a goofball and whatnot he is actually really good at his Ninja abilities. I know it does not explain everything 100%, but it is part of the theory of why he is a master. And yes I agree, it would make a nice little spin-off series and maybe we could learn the fate of the other turtles and characters, if they are still around.

Not expect it? Actually I think Mikey is the most likely to succeed Splinter. He's the turtle that holds the other three together. He's the one who loves his master as much as an actual son and could never raise his hand to hurt Splinter. He's the family turtle. Anyone who thinks Mikey is only about parties and pizza doesn't really see beyond skin deep.

At first glance, maybe. But, digging deeper. Yes, there is more to Mikey than just being the goofball.
One example of this was in the final season of Teen Titans (NOT "Toddler Titans Go", the REAL one.)
where the Brotherhood of Evil managed to capture every teen titan..EXCEPT Beast Boy,
who is considered the goofball of the core team.
Not only did he evade capture, but he led his own team to rescue the others.
So, with that as an example, I can see Mikey being MORE than what he seems.

true but hes a kid but in the end he doesnt care about being a ninja given a chance he would well be a family turtle and would surround himself with loved ones. Plus in these shorts they could all be masters just in other places.

Exactly, he doesn't care about being a ninja. He cares about FAMILY and what better way to surround yourself with family than to gather a whole bunch of orphaned teenagers together and teach them martial arts? Mikey's students are his new family.

Who's to say Leo didn't... Being a sensei, or some other kind of teacher, isn't really off limits to the others if that's what they wish to do, it's just more expected of Leo. (Though using Mikey in this punctuated the end in a way that using Leo would not.) Buuuuuut.... given the year that short is supposed to take place... chances are high the other three, being older, may no longer even be a live. (Given that red eared sliders, and many kinds of turtles, actually don't live longer than humans, and TMNT might have only lucked out in gaining a human-like lifespan.)
