Description
Ah here it is...The remains of Windsor Plantation... once the largest plantation home east of the mighty Mississippi. Mark Twain once visited and referred to Windsor's size as a college instead of a residence. Located just outside of Natchez, MS the home (completed in 1861) was 3 stories tall with an enclosed belvedere making a 4th - it included 25 large rooms and 12' wide balconies on three sides. During the war between the states, a Union officer was so impressed with Windsor, he drew a sketch to send home... Sadly, today that sketch is the only reference we have to what this grande dame once looked like. The home burned to the ground only 10 years after its completion when a party guest supposedly left a lit cigar on an upper balcony.
Standing there, amidst those columns... words cannot express. I still can't wrap my brain around the enormity and magnitude of the place...

Congrats, you get my first critique! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/g/g… " width="17" height="15" alt="

I love how you can switch from black and white to color and achieve such great results from each one.
The angle of this photo really makes you feel so tiny, making the pillars soar above you, even over the trees!
I think the black and white gives you a certain sense of...oldness. Is that a word? A sense of...grandeur. Elegance! There we go, hah.
Stately, there's another word that fits is. Very poised and stately.
I like the diagonal view as well because you can see more of the pillars, I think a front or side view wouldn't have shown the true size as well.
All in all, great photo! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/h/h… " width="15" height="13" alt="

thank you so much! i've always appreciated and looked forward to your feedback (as one of my original watcher, you've seen me grow as an artist
) i'm honored to be your first critique!
my only regret about this photo is that i couldn't find an angle that didn't have the dang saftey/'do-not-cross' fence in the foreground in it... and i feel if i shopped it out i'd have to post it as a photo manip... gah! struggles. haha!
thank you so much!

I actually kind of like the fence in the front. Since it was such a place of prestige, and now you can't even go near it...i think its kind of symbolic, you know?
And also I forgot to ask, but the name sounds really familiar, did you make it up?

I love that place! There's just something awe-inspiring about it. Just standing there inside the ruins gives you a feel of quiet and maybe something magical. That's a really good picture of it. The tree next to the ruins was almost as impressive as the ruins themselves! lol

I know how much space you had to work with, which wasn't very much! It's hard to get such a huge space in a shot when you are right on it! I love this shot! 3 story high columns seem to reach to the sky! The black and white lets you know it's old.

Very nice. And thanks for the background on it. You know, that would suck, to survive the whole War (and be one of the few mansions that did) and then get burned down so ingloriously, by a forgotten cigar... that just sucks.
