Description

For some reason I wanted to try my hand at making comic tutorials. The thing that inspired this was the first few episodes of She-Ra (I think) where He-Man shed a single tear without the rest of his face moving... Like, AT ALL. Figured the same thing could apply to comics as well! Now this isn't meant to be preachy, so don't take it as gospel or whatever. BUT hopefully it will help out a teeny tiny bit in some way in regards to comic making.

---EDIT---

sav8197 brought up an excellent point about context that I completely didn't think about. Context and the reason for said emotions are SUPER important! My main goal with this was to encourage people to have their characters show emotions, but they don't need to be over exaggerated like the example I made. It all depends on the context and the situation that said character(s) is(are) in!

One Piece has pretty much mastered the art of crying.

I think both can work depending of the context and personality of the character.Β

I already said this more in-depth-ish on tumblr, but that is sincerely a valid point!

I couldnt find a way to respond to you in Tumblr so i will just reply to you in here, yeah you are right Naruto in that gif i showed you he is still emting a lot, but my main point its that it didnt look too exagerrated to the point of looking silly, but the girl crying with a very inexpressive face that you draw for your example could still work in a certain context, if she was actually a robot that its struggling with feeling human emotions it could still work, and sorry for the late reply.

It kinda reminds me of the shedding a single tear trope.

I'm pretty sure He-Man doesn't HAVE the facial muscles to move his face like that.
The rest of his body assimilated the muscles they deemed 'unnecessary' and reassigned them to areas that needed MORE of them... Like his thighs and chest.
