Maybe I'm just feeling nostalgic or just complaining about nothing, but I remember a time where zombies were actual walking corpses, as opposed to random pedestrians covered in dirt and blood that just run around making snarling noises.Art © Me

actaully dude the first movie to have a zombie like mosnter had their zombies ratherp hysically whole.
to be even more technical, those guys were not even zombies. they were more like very low level vampires. which means thezombies of today are big fat rip offs of vampire lore. least they are not as bplatant as a certain other rip off of the vampiric demons of the night.

Well, to be fair they didn't really have a budget for makeup, and it WAS one of, if not THE first zombie movies ever made. And although they were technically zombies, they never stated in the film that they were zombies, just as, "The dead are walking the earth" (if I remembered the quote correctly). Plus, the comparison to zombies of today ripping off vampire lore is kinda unfair, seeing as how that implies that vampire lore is boring, dull, uncreative, and just full of random drama that no-one will ever care about.

just saying that zombies did not exist till that movie.
it had large enough budjet for dismebreing if i remember right.
vampiresa re really getting a raw deal. so many made into wuussies. however, to be hoehnst i am not above humanizing a vampire. technically a vampire is always once upon a time a human being. is it so crass an diea that maybe some have wills so strong that they retain much of theri personality when they become vampires? however i am against the likes of pussy edward, who is fangless in literal sense and metaphor. can't they find a balance? like between angel, who is the only time i have ever seen the concept of a moral vampire done right so far, and fucking alucard from hellsing, who is hero only becuase he is set loose on other vampires.
basically a vampire that can care for humans and retains his personality, but however is still affected by his demonic side and is far from above rendning apart his enemies and even enjoy doing it.

Zombies existed before that movie, in Voodoo folklore.

personally don't count it as that. a zombie in voodoo is a souless man still living. not a corpse.

Nope.
"A zombie (Haitian Creole: zonbi; North Mbundu: nzumbe) is an 'animated corpse resurrected by mystical means, such as witchcraft'. The term is often figuratively applied to describe a hypnotized person bereft of consciousness and self-awareness, yet ambulant and able to respond to surrounding stimuli."

the zombies from the remake of "Night of the living dead" were neat, they actually looked like corpses, the zombies from "the walking dead" are nice too, next come... everything else, maybe they haven't been dead long enough, give them time to decompose and look actually scary mike-boy, and yeah, the ones from left4dead look more like the mutants you'll get from parasite eve than real undead

Probably in the middle. They're still just gray people with blood on them, but they are a bit rotten with slight signs of bones sticking out.

Doesn't feel like they've changed that much except unlike Night of the Living Dead, zombies today are usually fast (I mean if you count 28 days, I kinda don't).
Lol that personal drama reminds me of Walking Dead show. Dramaaa everywhere

Many people think that a zombies is ANYTHING that acts like one... or people who gets infected by a virus... But REAL zombies are those peoples who came back from the dead. The rest are just infected people that acts like zombies.

Actually, it's a satire/parody of twilight, and does feature awesome super-rotten zombies as well.
It's based on a story by an excellent horror writer actually, so I'll probably see it.

The literal walking corpse variety is regarded as unrealistic and corny, and today's society has embraced the more plausible insane, infected individual? It has an aspect of scariness in the sense that it could realistically actually happen, whereas everybody knows corpses can't ever get up, walk, and eat your brains.
Not to mention reanimated corpses should decompose pretty quickly, so where's the fun in that?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
scythemantis In reply to DarkMarxSoul [2013-01-23 18:41:05 +0000 UTC]
I hate that logic, honestly. Nobody ever says this about ghost and demon movies, yet people still find them terrifying. Why do zombies need to be "believable?" It's a lost cause anyway; any zombie-like disease or parasite would be absolutely impossible in humans, and they would still be so easily killable that it would never become an apocalypse.
This makes plain-looking virus zombies nothing but boring and stupid, whereas impossible rotten corpses walking around is FAR scarier *because* it can't be explained away easily. That's the basic point of horror, to terrifyingly defy reason.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
DarkMarxSoul In reply to scythemantis [2013-01-23 21:17:31 +0000 UTC]
I think the idea there is that ghosts and demons can't have a logical explanation, so there's no point in trying, but zombies have a better shot at being logically explained.
And also, your liking for fantasy zombies is very subjective. I know at least one person who sees the magically-reanimated zombies as not scary whatsoever, because they know it could never occur in real like. However, because the more realistic kind of zombies are closer inside of the realm of possibility, it hits harder.

scythemantis In reply to DarkMarxSoul [2013-01-23 23:01:54 +0000 UTC]
but see, knowing as much about biology and parasites as I do makes the "virus" zombies unscary because I know *those* can't occur in real life, while zombies animated by some supernatural or alien force aren't in direct conflict with nature
Really, zombies would be coolest with no explanation at all.
However, thoroughly rotten-looking zombies with dangling eyes and exposed bones should be perfectly feasible anyway; real diseases do worse without killing the host.

The movie warm bodies is actually a comedy, it's not like Twilight. Plus, they have some "zombie" looking zombies as well. I think people need to give some things a chance sometimes. It actually looks good, there are different forms of zombies just as there are different forms of vampires and werewolves. No one really knows what one really is like so just let it pass. It's not like they're sparkling.

I'm not directly attacking Warm Bodies at all, I didn't even know that was the movie's name, I'm just saying I'm sick of all these zombie-related games/movies/comics always resorting to the same design again and again and again. I can get that they do that for movies because, you know, lot of make up to do on a lot of people, but what about video games? It's just frustrating when there is a lot of room for creative ideas, and all they do with that is fill it up with a cookie cut zombie and nothing else. D:

Daisie2819 In reply to MichaelJLarson [2013-01-23 19:50:55 +0000 UTC]
Ohhhh. I can understand that, I've just seen so many things yelling at that movie and thought this was another one. I'm sorry. But yes, in video games it's much different, they should be far more creative with the designs there because there's no limitations on them. But I think they resort to that because that's what people think zombies are now. Ever since one of my friends played Resident Evil, she won't let the undead be a zombie, they're only the undead to her and zombies are people who have been infected. I don't see how that is a zombie, it's a whole new creature in my mind. It would be more fun to see more undead zombies out there. I agree.

I think the main problem is that writers keep using the "post-apocalypse" setting. The only good Zombie story that I can remember since the Romero films is The Walking Dead, and that's practically a tribute to Romero's works.

In mvoies, Zombies are either presented well, or done very badly.
A pity these days, all these wimp writers unload tons of emo crap
into the storylines. I recommend people watch "Zombie Flesh Eaters".
It has real scares and damn convincing special effects...

It's like they think that just writing a bunch of dramatic/emo shlock and cramming it into the story will make up for the poor and bland zombie designs. Like, "Oh, we can't make this guy have his rotting guts hanging out, I KNOW, We'll make one of the characters contemplate SUICIDE! YEAH! THIS WILL TOTALLY WORK!"
