Thanks. It's my favourite road in the whole town. Considered a 'natural monument' actually...

Thank you. I guess everyone likes something different in this one.

wonderful stuff, eerie and dark, just what the doctor ordered. i've been trying to get a similar image but somehow my perspective is never good enough.

Well, to me it's just not eerie enough, frankly. something's missing, like a blur from leaves swaying on the wind or such. But it's good that it still serves a purpose. The perspective bit is hard, because one needs a big big optical zoom, this was shot with a 10x for example. Without it, the effect is much harder to achieve.

I think it's plenty eerie, worked for me anyhow, if the leaves were blurry i think you would have lost some of it's effect.

Well, working is good enough. About the blur, it's kind of an interesting thing, because it's very random at longer exposure times. For some time they would sway, and then stop, resulting in a motion blur plus contour combination. But I'd need a darkening filter which I don't possess.

You'l have to put a darkening filter on your shopping list so!! I know what you mean about the random results depending on exposure times, but i still think that this piece is perfect even without the sway/ blur, I think the reason i like it so much without it, is the absolute stillness of it, it makes me think that if I was standing there the sound of the trees and birds and everything would suddenly stop completely, which to me would be extremely eerie.

Oh that darkening filter is expensive stuff because I'd have to buy the glass at a watchmaker's. But I probably will, it's useful. Anyway, it is a pretty eerie place sometimes, the trees grow close to one another like a corridor and it leads into a forest. Thanks

interesting prospective, like the roof top at the ends makes one think of a road home

Wow I didn't think of it like that. I could have titled it 'the way home' or something. Would be more meaningful. Oh well...
It's one of my favorite views, thanks

Leaving it named tunnel lets each person see what they want to at the end... I think its very cool

michalrz In reply to justushere [2007-08-31 20:27:20 +0000 UTC]
And here I was just calling it a tunnel because of how the trees align. I didn't even tie a meaning to it until now when You presented those two variants. Weird.

I remember the other version...I like this one better, especially in the mood I'm in
it almost looks like a pencil drawing

Well, I didn't want to mimic any other form of creativity here, and at all for that matter. Well ok sometimes I do, but I will not make mistakes like 'aint' effects no more. It's wrong. But I did aim for a dark, kind of eerie feeling. Too bad You're a good audience for this sort of atmosphere right now.

Birgit-Zartl-Art In reply to michalrz [2007-07-21 10:43:54 +0000 UTC]
I think it's mostly the color like graphite that reminds me of a pencil drawing so no copying of paintings or drawings, okay?
yes at this time I'm very responsive to that atmosphere but I am in general too (I think you know that anyway)

michalrz In reply to Birgit-Zartl-Art [2007-07-22 16:35:28 +0000 UTC]
Okay
Bout the atmosphere - maybe because it's a strong source of inspiration, and it's usually endlessly deep, contrary to happiness that is usually shown in the form of a happy couple or flowers, and that can be deadly boring and very televisionesque (baaad).

Birgit-Zartl-Art In reply to michalrz [2007-07-22 19:17:49 +0000 UTC]
yes I totally agree with you...usually there is more depth compared to 'happiness' but then again, this might be a clichΓ©...I don't know

michalrz In reply to Birgit-Zartl-Art [2007-07-24 17:09:48 +0000 UTC]
Well, it sure is easy to disturb a person, than to make him smile. There aren't many images that will instantly make You laugh. And even the simplest images but with a proper set of tones can be alarming. So maybe not that cliche, but a bit easier. Still, both ways still hold some undiscovered approaches to them. The person screaming in Munch's painting definitely wasn't emo, for example.

I love seeing what you come up with, my only complaint is you should submit more...

michalrz In reply to ali-in-a-bubble [2007-07-20 21:24:07 +0000 UTC]
Well, nice to hear that. However, I cannot submit much, because I come up with really good stuff rarely. So I only submit things that have first been scrutinized, and have an established position in my head. And I want to have only those works that I like most, and also not flood peoples' messages centres with 'omg flowerrr' or 'bird no. 3920'

The Captain returns! What looks down that dark tunnel at the unsuspecting habitations of mankind? Better to summon the inner-werewolf now and investigate than be taken by suprise.
Something wicked this way comes.

This is the one I'm working from. More difficult than I anticipated because I'm trying what I want to do on a canvas the same size as the print. So detail is limited. I've changed the color scheme somewhat but there is no doubt that your photo is the basic reference What I hope I can achieve is the silhouette of a noserfatu type character approaching the village, and a wolf sniffing the ground in the right bottom corner foreground. Funny, because I just reread my initial comments and that must have stuck in my head somehow all this time. Also need to get a new camera becuse Put2 knocked a lot equipment over, probably trying to be helpful. No time to batten down the hatches when Green fluids are folowing out of your belly I'm afraid.

There were sightings of.. joggers. Those weird tribes that do not know the wheel yet and travel at great speed and distances on foot. Other than that I myself have spotted an old lady walking a dog. I had to wait for her to leave the frame. She was probably defending the premises from soul capturing devices.

We even have that weird tribe over here...heedless of the danger of passing traffic, they appear around sunrise, puffing toward destinations unknown by wheeled man.

I don't visit that place this early. But I heard rumors that they do. In the evening I myself have noticed a few. I prefer more unattended places to jog, hence safer. In a way.

It's hard to reckon what time of the day Jogging is safe. Differant gools come
out at different times. Areas apparently avoid people at differant times

michalrz In reply to nunheh [2007-07-30 19:32:27 +0000 UTC]
Those times of day that appear safe sometimes are surprisingly creepy. Like when you see a young kid, I don't know, sixteen or so, walking on a lesser known road at almost 11 pm. Or funny, like a roe-deer running along the road next to the jogger. Once I've viewed satellite imagery of Your town, looks like a fairly quiet place. But I couldn't zoom in and check out. I can't simply go out and walk around the town alone after dark, even though it's a tourist region and it's supposed to be super safe.

Satellite vision very late reply: This place is safe where I live, but the police used to follow me around because I was so out of place among the populace. Once they stopped me after following me home because they thought I was Jacking Deer (Jacking is catching a deer with your headlights, thus freezing them, and then shooting them.) What I had in my pickup was a few bags of trash from Eva's store. Nowadays the threat of crime is creeping up....so many empty houses, mostly built by illegal Mexican immigrants, now empty and owned by banks that can't do anything with them.. Upswing in Gang violence with new Mexican gangs shooting it out with crips for drug supremacy in nearby Wilmington. At the northern end of the Island housebreaks, car break ins etc. A few stabbings.
The crumbling of America continues apace.
