I am an underage female and I completely agree with this. Equality is very important, and it's sad how all adult men are expected to be like superman, able to punch out anyone who abuses them.

Awww.... that is so sad... no help for that poor guy. My school was giving a seminar about the same problem. It was about how a judge is less likely to believe a guy in court if he claims he has been abused if he is without evidence, versus a woman who barely needs any evidence at all. They also told the men how to get help by keeping records (even though I think that is a little stupid, because the man would have to take more abuse in order to KEEP record...).

... I feel for this poor man. I have never felt it myself and I pray that I do not, but I can at the very least acknowledge his suffering. It is all too real and all too vivid for me to handle. This idea that men MUST be strong has been something that has existed for centuries--nay, MILLENIA. Men are still held to the same damn standards that they have ALWAYS been held to, and they are mocked for trying to break free of it while at the same time scolded for adhering to it.

Simply put, they're told they HAVE to be strong.

So if this group removed it on the grounds that "men can't be abused," then FUCK THAT SHIT. They can, it happens, and I've GOT my sources if you want them! It isn't a matter of being strong or weak; abuse can happen to ANYONE, completely regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, age, race, or religion.

This image... it speaks for itself.

I already respected you, sir, from an artistic standpoint. Now? Now I respect you as a true man.

Yes, that is what I'm afraid will happen. It's a little too vague and people could twist it to mean something else.

This is so sad. Equality is something we all try to reach for and never get to. There is always someone who misses out because of ignorance.

Speaking of ignorance, Holy mother of god the comments I have seen are truly despicable. Over half are comments about how they don't get this picture and then there are those who are saying "yes this is so sad but woman and children get abused more." or "Yes this is so sad but men are generally the perpetrators, that’s why they considered."

No. studies are ALWAYS from the woman’s perspective. Studies will allow that men can be abused but they always focus on how woman and children are the ones who are abused and that it's always because of men. No, men are abused just AS much as women, but because our society still calls men weak whenever they can't defend themselves (See ALL of WilerXwiler comments) they don't come forward and are ashamed. It's not just gay relationships too where domestic abuse is involved. Woman are just as vicious as men, sometimes more so because they get weapons and appliances involved. And Men in those situation generally lie about how they got their injuries because god forbid anyone know about how they were hit around by a woman. (Those who say, well why don’t they fight back? ask the same question about women involved in those situations. they feel powerless. it doesn’t matter who's physically stronger the emotional hold the abuser has over someone will almost always stop them from speaking up against their partner.)

HTFlover013 In reply to Hypothisos [2012-04-15 00:45:41 +0000 UTC]

(Not to mention the woman could then twist it around, saying that he is the abuser and she the victim.)

Reminds me of a local law firm around where i live that has radio commercials. They represent men in court cases like divorce and such. It seems so easy to just assume that in every battery and abuse case, men are at fault, but in truth it can go both ways. I knew a guy who's wife beat him and cheated on him repeatedly....till he filmed it all going down and presented video proof in court. Guess who got full custody of the kids after that....

Such a fantastic double standard in our society, don't you think?
And for some of the commenters saying, "Men did it to themselves";
Men in the past did have the "We are the strongest and most resilient yadda yadda" That is not me. I did not say that, I have never said that. You can not try to blame men that there is no support because the current generation had absolutely nothing to do with what happened in the past generation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Cosplay-Thief In reply to FOXGEAR92 [2012-02-17 13:33:38 +0000 UTC]

What you say does ring some truth. But I believe men in the current generation should be more vocal about the abuse and issues.
There is no better time than the present to make a movement and I know there are some associations about abused males somewhere. But their voices are still not high enough.

If women back in the days could make a movement to improve their homelives and their choices, men are entitled to it too.

Now if we could divert media away from reality tv and which celebrity is sleeping with who, maybe we can have more public awareness on things like female on male rape.
