My first ASCII art.It came out rather bad...
Maybe it is better to use monospaced font instead of proportional (I used Arial Black).

OMG. This is very well done for this type of art. Especially for a cartoon.

Looks quite good. But yes, monospaced type is always better for ASCII art. Otherwise you get weird spacing problems when trying to line up characters vertically (as I can see happened to you when trying to make the left leg line up properly; the upper part is jagged due to the spacing changes caused by the right foot).

It will be very difficult if you use something like Notepad. I used Photoshop.
It is quite simple. Open a picture you want (first you should draw it 
You can use any program, which allows to type a text over a picture, for example MS Word.
