Also, the acronym "HASDA" is an homage to the NAtional Space Development Agency (NASDA), which had existed prior to the formation of JAXA in 2003. JAXA was a merger between NASDA, the Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), and the National Aerospace Laboratory (NAL).

The reason why this isn't "HAXA" is because it was already taken. In 2009, people who were members of the Japanese video-sharing site Nico Nico Douga planned to launch a rocket into space from the Nevada desert carrying a small figure of Hachune Miku waving a green onion. They invented a fictional agency called the Hachune Aerospace eXploration Agency. Later, HAXA was renamed to SOMESAT (Social Media Satellite Development Project). The actual rocket didn't go into space, though.
