It's hard to be a spy when you start questioning who is the real enemy...
I tried to make a background...
And I don't really know what to say...
Explosions and bomb are actually so normal Aden isn't fazed at all...
He is a little far away, but it's still a pretty big bang, I would think...
I think I'm starting to get the hang of this lineless thing...

This is a very nice piece, wonderful use of colour and brushes. When I first saw this I thought the explosion was actually a sunset but I see what you're getting at. From looking at this piece alone I would not have guessed that he was a spy in a war setting, perhaps you could add more detail to the uniform because to me it looked like a tuxedo or school uniform. The explosion is nice but I think there should be more debris flying from it as well as smoke rising. Broken down army vehicles in the background would also add to this. I love how the character looks and how the proportions are set and I think overall you did a good job.

I can see how it can be confused with a sunset, which is something I need to work on...
I'm also very new to the whole background thing, so these tips help a lot!
About the army vehicles and all, I'm still developing this world (which is going to have a very slight sci fi angle to the transportation), so I haven't figured out how they look...
I realized when I was done coloring Aden and was shading him that I should've flipped him around as most of the uniform details are on the other side...

Well, it's a easy question, whoever pays most are your ally and whoever they say is your enemy IS your enemy (also have a spy character who I am currently role playing, for now that's his general rules (though, he don't want to be involved in anything too big)).

Then your character and Aden here is very different. Aden didn't become a spy by choice, he was forced into it. It was either espionage in a war or being executed for (in a way) treason. Aden sees that it's just as bad on his enemy's side as it is where he calls home. He get's to know the people he is supposed to call enemies and at some point he doesn't see the difference between friends and enemies. He doesn't understand the point of the war and he can't find a reason for it.
I think it's a very hard question to answer if you have no training in being a spy and didn't become one of your own free will. It isn't about money or doing a job. It's about living to see another day and when you are torn between risking a slow, painful death and losing the people you have come to love like a family, it isn't easy to keep up with the lying.
