Description
All done at last! And just in time, too. This drawing was a challenge to myself, to see what I could do by taking my time, especially on the scenery, which is where I usually get sloppy.
I am happy with the turnout. Not as happy with the final scan, but I will photograph it later, while I'm in Nanaimo, and see if I can update the image.
This piece is about the feeling you get when you walk into an old place... somewhere people were many many years ago. When you walk through these places, you can feel their memories. I can, anyway, and I love it.

Thank you so much! I wish I had space to dabble with oils again, as you do, but alas! Graphite is my escape.

It feels like it did! I think overall it probably took me 20 hours give or take a few, but I mostly worked in 2-hour increments.
Thank you so much for the comment!

Thank you so much! It really means a lot that you took time to comment on my work.
I'm trying to improve. I guess that's what being part of DA is all about, isn't it? I think with artists like you around, there's a lot of incentive and inspiration to continue.

Hey, no worries! I know you're busy with projects an whatnot. Honestly, I've been swamped lately too.
I am planning on doing more in this fashion. This one was a test to see what I could make myself do with time and patience, and I really like the results. I'm currently working on calligraphing a set of French fairy tales, which I plan to illustrate in this way. The end result will be a hand-written, hand-bound book for my little niece. So - that's what I'm doing now. So far I have pages 1 and 2 written and am trying to decide which scenes to illustrate. I will also need references.
Anyhow! Thanks so much for commenting, my dear, and for the favourite! It's good to have your presence back in my gallery.

wow a wonderful project!that would surely be an amazing book for your niece!i'm just a little anxious because kids don't always care much for things like that and it's a pitty this book to be destroyed

No worries there. Her mother is very good and can take care of it until she's old enough. Besides, I get a copy for me!

First thing this reminded me of :Great Expectations. The once grand estate reeking with decay, the lone girl wandering in the debris. Stunning textures, the leaves are amazing.

Really? That's awesome! I love hearing different takes on my works. I really need to read Great Expectations... It's on my long list of books to get through before I die.
Thanks so much for the wonderful comment, it's much appreciated!

This is... astounding. Not that I expected anything less, to be honest, after seeing the WIPs
The detail is absolutely breathtaking. You certainly haven't skimped here -- or if you have, then you're just NOT HUMAN.
What can I say? I love this. And it almost give me that exact same feeling of contemplation -- as if I'm there myself.

Thank you so much! I'm glad that you get the feeling from the drawing, as well.
There was, honestly, only a little skimping near the end. I got a bit hurried before I had to transport it in my suitcase (I wanted it finished and sprayed before it came on the bus with me).
Hopefully more pieces with this detail are coming up... I have some ideas in mind, and many photographs that I've taken this week from which to work.

I'm sorry it will not be in colour. This was more to practice my pencil works. Maybe one day I will try digital colouring, but I feel like it is finished as it is.
Thank you so much for the wonderful comment!

INCREDIBLY
BEAUTIFUL
Omg Robin- you've out done yourself with this one. It's GORGEOUS. The vine work is spectacular, and you've captured all those highlights and low lights with such sharpness. VERY beautiful.

Thanks, Ark! I'm trying to step my work up some. Taking inspiration from you to keep going even when I'm in a rut.
I'll be gone now until the 3rd of May, but maybe when I come back I'll have something else started! (here's hoping)

That's really cool hon- I'm very happy that you're not giving up I know how hard it is for me when I do the same- it's so difficult, but if you try... sometimes its just a mental barrier
Well, I think you've cleared the rut personally, but do you feel out of it?

I will now. I think I feel pretty happy about it. I'm in Nanaimo right now visiting my dad, and there's forests galore here. (remote island with not too many people and lots of vegetation.) It's the perfect environment for sketching, really.

Awww, I know what you mean. It's really truly nice just to get away from the hustle and bustle of home. This is definitely a retreat for me, although I will have to get back to the grind on Monday.
I haven't been 'bored' though... Just relaxed. Mmmm, ocean waves.
