Zeta was the same way. You were hard pressed to find mobile suits that didn't have some silly alternate mode half way through the series.

Yeah. Probably due to the success of Macross & Transformers. They were pretty big back then.
It seems like a lot of Destiny's Gundam designs DO seem to be Zeta knockoffs. Like the Murasame. It's like a cross between Astray & Z+, & Andy's has a Hiaku Shiki paintjob! And let's not forget Destroy Gundam, the bastard child of Big Zam & Psycho Gundam.
