Thanks man! Actually, it's really simple to draw something like this or any other picture But I don't know you well enough to tell you the secret

Well now you've just made me intrigued. Note me, I won't tell anyone. But from what you just said I think I got an idea of what you mean.

It doesn't have anything to do with copying or cheating of any kind, if that's what you mean

Well that's where my mind jumped to. Now I'm really confused! I have no idea what it could be O.O

I already told you; it's REALLY simple! And I also told you that I don't know you well enough to tell you

Sorry, it was just too fun to intrigue you about my "secret"
Since you're going to college (like me), I'll give you the facts, straight-up first-handed:
- No one, and I mean *NO ONE*, is born with talent to draw like a Japanese animator; the reason they (and everyone else who draws like a pro 60+ y.o. painter/artist) are good is because they had both the will and the time to improve their drawing skills/style since childhood, because the loved doing it, not because they were obligated to.
- There are many STYLES to drawing, each with it's own level of difficulty (that basically means: the harder the drawing style, the better the ending result), as you might've noticed here on DA. Take my drawings for instance; you'll notice that they are all close-lined, with one line representing only one feature/curve of a character drawn, right? I call that the "PROJECTION" style (don't get me wrong, styles don't have names, but I named mine anyway ); what I do is project the angle, curviness, and length of a line and basically just transfer it from a picture (or even 3D reality objects like people, fruit, ect...) to the paper. Combining all the lines together, gets you something like this (the drawing above
). Piece of cake!
- One last fact to drawing is thus: THERE IS NO AGE LIMIT TO LEARN IT!!! So, if you're really willing to do it (and have time to spare), just go ahead and practice. After a while, you'll see the results for yourself
Phew, that was a long one, but I felt like I owe it to you. Hopefully, it wasn't too boring to read

It wasn't too boring to read, but maybe 3:55am wasn't the best time to read it! Headache is developing
Yeah, when you said you don't trace and things I was just thinking you were gonna say something along the lines of "practice makes perfect" To be fair with my own work I've only been drawing for literally a few weeks (maybe like 6 weeks?) and I'm getting really impatient! It takes me hours to draw a picture and a lot of the time I have to completely change it because I can't make it look how I want it to. Another one to add to your list is "don't ever be offended by what people say looks wrong". I take all criticism as feedback on how to improve, so like when I was told the girl in one of my pictures was way too top heavy and looked worse than barbie, I redrew her hips and hands and am so much happier with the result now than I was before.
How long have you been drawing for to get so good?

Yeah, sorry for the 4 AM reply :/ I just came back from a party and was still under the creative influence of a "medicinal plant", if you know what I mean
Anyway, the "practice makes perfect" sentence wasn't made up for nothing; it is actually the anthem for succeeding in something! You say you've been drawing for only like a month and a half, right? Don't be inpatient, think of it like this: some people try their whole lives to perfect their art; yet no matter how good they are, they are never satisfied with their work and always try to achieve greater heights! I personally know one of those people and lemme tell you, her works are FREAKING GODLIKE!!! I remain speechless every time she shows me some drawing of hers; and then a few seconds later (while my jaw is still touching the ground), she tells me something like this: "Yeah, I know - it sucks! I'll try harder next time..." At that point I'm thinking something like "OMG!!! WTF IS WRONG WITH YOU!!!" So there you have it If you think six weeks is a long time to improve, try comparing that to a LIFETIME! I hope I opened your eyes a little bit here
Another thing you mentioned is that you accept and encourage criticism and feedback from people, right? That is definitely a major PLUS, and a faster way to improve as well! If you take a peek at my diary pages, you'll see that I always mention at the end the exact same thing! That's why I try to be as harsh to myself as possible when no one's around me to tell me what's wrong and what's right about what I just drew. A little self-critique isn't bad either, 'cause you can't always rely on other people to do it for you, know what I mean?
Cheers, and keep practicing!

Yeah I sure will!! I'm glad I didn't offend you, got really worried for a bit there. I hate upsetting people!! And I know exactly what you mean more of a booze girl myself though.
Well I guess she's just doing exactly what we're talking about then, always critiquing her own work so she can improve and make her Godlike work even better. You never stop improving, especially if you keep being harsh on yourself like that. And I did try drawing once when I was about 12, but my hand-eye-coordination just wasn't up to scratch. I've been tracing screenshots of the show for a few months now, as well as other things like photographs. I'd never put the traced stuff up though because it's not my work, but the traced photographs were all photos that I had taken personally so I don't really class that as cheating or anything, although it's possibly not the best art form.
Thanks, I surely will!
(I'm way too addicted to stop now )
