Writer: nobody cares about this couple, lets destroy them and he a good time with it
then again, the episodes are written far in advance, maybe they thought people would enjoy seeing them ripped apart.

I think it is. It had a page about it on the wiki. Someone release a line up of tweleve new people, plus Christen Potenza has a vid with a new voice actor in it.
