Description
This is the first of a string of watercolour still life drawings that I'm doing just for practice.When I was choosing the subject matter, I grabbed this bag of apples from my kitchen and just dropped them on the table.
In the beginning I told myself "how boring!" but after observing the apples for a while, I started realizing how every apple had its own patterns, colours and eccentric volume.
When I finished it I looked at it and it reminded me of the solar system drawings I used to draw when I was a kid: a collection of irregular circles of swirling colour.

This came out really well for "just practice!" The apples really have a sense of weight and volume, and they really have a space in this picture. They sit on the table and interact with it and each other.
