Description Quint: We just want to goose him up, come on. Okay... when he runs, you drop that rope or you lose your hands. I've seen fingers torn out at the knuckles. Old fisherman's home is full of `em. Hey boy! Give it to me a minute! Start the engine!

(Chief Brody walks away from Quint and heads into the Orca's cabin)

Quint: Where are you goin'?

Martin: I'm gonna make a phone call.

(Quint stares icily at Brody from the deck as the Chief tries to use the boat's CB radio)

Chief Brody: Hello? Hello? Hello, mayday Orca. Coast Guard?
(Quint grabs a large wooden bat from it's holders)

Chief Brody: Coast Guard, this is the Orca do you read me? Coast Guard, this is the Orca do you...

(Quint runs into the cabin and smashes the CB Radio Chief Brody was using. Brody stands there stunned and Quint hands him the bat.)

Quint: Excuse me chief.

Chief Brody: (smashing the bat off the table in frustration and rage) That's great! That's just great! Now where the hell are we, huh?!?

(Brody starts shaking the bat at Quint)
You're certifiable, Quint! You know that?!? You're certifiable!

Quint: (waves his hand dismissively at Brody) Yah! Yah! Yah!

Chief Brody: You're certifiable!! But I'll tell you this...

Hooper: (From on deck spots the shark charging towards the boat.) Boys... Oh, boys! I think he's come back for his noon feeding.

You're gonna need a bigger boat ...
Oh, Christ, this is just amazing, I used to draw "Jaws" art when I was 12 -- and we are ALL delighted that we did NOT have DA then, I assure you -- but I do recall drawing some giant, epic piece of what is now most likely total crap of the shark attacking Hooper in the cage. I remember thinking this was a masterpiece. I really think I've got to draw me a picture of Quint now. This is so fantastic ... "smile, you sonnovabitch"

I'm just obsessed with this movie and I watch it at least once a month. I used to draw movie art as a kid as well. Though I have no clue where most of it is now.

Oh, a few things about this movie ... yeah, I'm obsessed with it too, in my way-- I always will be.

Like I said, I was 12 when "Jaws" came out (yeah, I'm old enough to be everyone's mom here) and oh do I remember "Jaws" mania and I think I've read everything Benchley's ever written -- this and "Young Frankenstein" came on my radar at the same time, and until Mel Brooks and Steven Spielberg blasted themselves into my life around the same time, I had wanted to be a veterinarian -- I spent a good deal of time (and money) today the vet's, I also spent a good time there having an episode over the fact that our 13-year-old cat (and bear in mind that the cats I own are not your typical stupid, hide when people come over, bow and bell wearing pampered pussies *heh* -- my cats are in your face, "hihowyadoin", "fugeddaboudit" cats who ride in the car and have collars with Harley logos on it -- I'm just sayin') is entering the final stage of kidney failure -- so basically, he is dying, he may have weeks, he may have another year or so, but anyway, the deal is, the fact that I'll never have my own kids and love animals though I do -- I would have made a terrible vet.

What did happen when I sat in that theatre when I was 12 sort of went like this: "I know that's fake, how did they do that? Because THAT'S what I want to do!" I had no fucking clue how to get there or what effects really were but I knew that's where I'd eventually end up. And here I am, I started with props and ended up a writer, hired by a guy who was my hero in the '70s -- that guy is now just basically my brother from another mother -- but "Jaws", yeah, I totally understand, I could spend a lot of time telling you about why this movie works, about how Dick Zanuck, following in the footsteps of his father, perpetuated that amazing Zanuck knack of telling a full story and its sequel in the same film. His dad did it in "David Copperfield", famously in "Gone With the Wind" and Dick did it magnificently in "Jaws" (it's when the Orca puts to sea, in the shot though the shark's jaws in Quint's shack -- one chapter of the story ends -- the effect of the shark attacks as seen from the shore-bound and takes the fight to the shark's territory. It is brilliant, and it is stunning marriage of old and "new" Hollywood meeting and passing the torch. It was the first "film score" I ever owned (so I was a John Williams fan BEFORE "Star Wars" -- line up if any of you can say that!) and John Milius's amazing, amazing monologue of the "Indianapolis story" -- a story that in 1975 was viewed as "shamefully" as the Apollo 13 mission was (and I kind you not, I remember this). I also learned to scuba dive because of this movie, I've still never seen a shark in the wild, but sea lions do like to fuck with you.

Anyway, sorry about the rant/whatever you want to call this -- I feel a very strong kinship to this film and I understand how you feel about it. I don't know how many women love "Jaws", I just feel it's a part of my life. I spend a lot of time my time in this business saying: "When Spielberg was my age he directed 'Jaws' 22 years ago", it makes me feel sort of old and very humble and I wish to God Spielberg would remember his film-making roots and stop feeling guilty about his father and being a bad Jew (and I come from a long line of Jews so don't start with me...)and would just go back to making a movie that kicks ass and scares the shit out of us, just for fun.

Anyway, I love this piece, I love all your "Jaws" art -- I'm really going to have to pony up on this. I think I'll need two barrels on this one, of course, I've also got things on board that'll kill him.

It's only an island if you look at it from the water...

I was negative 1 years old when Jaws came out. I didn't see the movie until 1984 or 1985. At the time my first best friend Bobby showed me the movie when I slept over his house one night and it fascinated me. It made me laugh scared the shit out of me and above all else entertained the hell out of me. I became obsessed with it and the actors involved. It's one of the first movies I memorized and could quote front to back as needed in any situation which often troubled my friends.

I count Jaws among the many movies that have fucked me up for life. I was so freaked out from the shark attacks I was paranoid to go swimming alone in an above ground pool for weeks afterwards.

The only other movie to amp my paranoia level like that as a child was Alien since the entrance to my basement looks a lot like the ducts Captain Dallas was in when that fucking alien reached out of the darkness and grabbed him. At any moment I thought I would open that basement door and that chrome grilled fucker would come screaming out of the pitch blackness, grab me and drag me to my death. :death:

Because of Jaws I got way interested in watching movies and became a life long Spielberg fan. I have to agree with you that he needs to get back to making fun movies that make sense. I almost ended up like the victims that watch the tape in the Ring when I saw Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. I mean come on what the fuck were he and Lucas thinking when they went ahead with the nuclear blast refrigerator scene.

They had the perfect set up for having Indy drag race the Russians away from the nuclear blast since they foreshadowed it in the opening credits. Instead I got to see Indy survive at ground zero of an A Bomb inside a Fridge.

I always wanted to go scuba diving but it just never happened. AT this point I would be happy just to have a pool

I plan on doing more movie art soon. I got lots of movies I am obsessed with and I need to draw my favorite scenes or it will drive me nuts

hehe I knew you would like it I used a few screenshots to get it to look right.

Really? It looks to scale to me I think it's justsmaller looking when it isn't compared to Richard and Roy's hands in the movie maybe
