Yeah I love that version and the red and gold one he created after the first Armor Wars. They're just iconic to me and nothing beats the simple designs to me.

Agreed. I wasn't much of a fan of the Extremis suit. While it is really impressive what they are able to do with nano machines, it just doesn't seem as awesome as a traditional power suit.

Yeah, he became too much like Venom for my tastes. I liked it better when he had that weakness of not being able to get to the suit sometimes or he would have to slap it on in a high pressure situation. Like when he fell off the SHIELD Helicarrier

I didn't realize that, but he is like Venom now. There's no real tension if Tony can just summon his armor. I think that's why "The Five Nightmares" storyline bothered me so much. The features on his armor used to be interesting, but now the sheer amount of incredible things his armor can do make Tony kind of boring, since I have to read through pages of stats about tech. He even has a healing factor now, but that seems to come standard with heroes nowadays.

This is sort of why I stopped reading Iron Man. They're making him very close to a Mary Sue at this point and it ruins any drama the storylines could have. And I agree with you, it reads like a technical manual half the time.
I liked it better when he was a guy with normal human attributes outside of the armor. Like during Busiek's run when Tony got gang beaten by Spymaster's mercenaries, he was fucked up for months afterward and the only thing that evened the odds later was he used his armor to find those guys and take them out.
