Description
"Moddey Dhoo" means "black dog" in Gaelic. There's also the Black Shuck in East Anglia, Skriker and Trash-hound in Lancashire, Padfoot in Yorkshire--but all are the same canine forerunners of death.Stock used from Fotoseach>[link]

Thank you. Β The dude should of listened to his bros when they warned him not go disrespecting a monstrous hellhound.

Was it a Hellhound, or a ghostly dog like Black Shuck is supposed to be? Doesn't matter, really. According to the story, all it wanted to do every night was lay by the fireplace. But one soldier just had to ruin his relaxation by getting too drunk and mouthing off.Β
The soldier didn't deserve what happened of course, but still, Hellhound or not, you don't go around disrespecting a guest. Nor do you go around disrespecting a being that was probably living in the castle way before the soldiers came in.

I completely agree. Β It's better to let sleeping dogs lie...no matter what their origin may be.

Probably very expensive to get too unless you live a Harry Potteresque universe.

Probably expensive anywhere. I mean, try catching something that can simply vanish. Or, you know, kill you with a stare.

Well, since you asked for advanced critique, here goes.
This does not look like a digital painting at all. The Photoshop filters you used are blatantly obvious. I mean, if you're going to put something in Paintings and Airbrushings, it should at least LOOK painted.
There is a rectangular area where the image seems correct, and then a huge bar-shaped section across the bottom and the left where the image is much lighter. I'm not sure if this was intentional, but perhaps you need to adjust your monitor's brightness and contrast.
On Deviantart, one must ALWAYS link back directly to the image he/she used as stock or reference. It is in the rules. This applies to both DA and outside stock sites like SXC and Fotosearch.

Okay, so what category should I include this under then if it doesn't meet the criteria of a digital painting?

Thanks. Richard Adams, the same guy who wrote Watership Down, also did a short story about that haunting of Peel Castle.

Maybe like a Labrador. Are they pretty friendly?
π: 0 β©: 1
HypotheticalHare In reply to mmpratt99 [2011-04-11 03:32:05 +0000 UTC]
Labradors are. The Church Grim, or Kirk Grim, is considered a guardian spirit of churches and cemeteries, so unless you are an evil spirit, or have evil designs against the church/graveyard in question, there is no reason why the Grim wouldn't be friendly, or at the very least indifferent towards you.

I thought about using a Black Dog in one of my stories. Maybe a young CΕ΅n Annwn that got stranded during a Wild Hunt. My character would end up adopting it thinking it was a genetically engineered dog belonging to some poacher.
π: 0 β©: 1
HypotheticalHare In reply to mmpratt99 [2011-04-11 15:36:36 +0000 UTC]
CΕ΅n Annwn are usually seen as a death portent, but their place of origin is an otherworldly paradise. Heh. Would definitely make for an interesting story. Your character would be in for quite a shock when his new dog shows just what it is. Question is, would Gwyn ap Nudd come looking for his wayward hound?
π: 0 β©: 1
mmpratt99 In reply to HypotheticalHare [2011-04-11 19:33:51 +0000 UTC]
That's kind of funny that they're death omens yet at the same time they come from Paradise. I wonder if they also cause general bad luck like ants or rats eating your clothes or a volcano exploding in your back yard? I imagine Gwyn ap Nudd would come looking for the stray since its a expensive pedigree.
π: 0 β©: 1
HypotheticalHare In reply to mmpratt99 [2011-04-11 20:46:20 +0000 UTC]
It seems more likely a death omen in that was bad luck or fatal to see the Wild Hunt. I don't know expensive it would be for Gwyn ap Nudd to raise the hounds since he has the originals. Still, they are his property, and Faerie lands have different rules than earth.
