Though I had it in mind to doodle I kept finding ‘just one more thing to do’ until I decided to stop procrastinating. It is true for me the hardest part of drawing is to actually start drawing.

Thumb-nailing a piece I’ve had in mind for a long time. As part of that I also decided to work on 3/4 view and as an extension of that, Jack Hamm explained in his book that any profile [cartoon] face can easily be made 3/4 or front view with the quick addition of a few lines. Yep, it’s true. At least in this pic it was... I also tried to force myself draw a little bigger than usual. I’m still not up to A4 though, lol. As usual, proportions are off. Drawing larger makes for easier corrections but I wasn’t drawing that large today. I also was doodling so not really going for a ‘good’ piece.

On the flip side of that I also notice that ‘warming up’ was definitely helpful. Not so much perhaps to calibrate my eye/hand skills but to more quickly ‘get in the zone’. The above actually didn’t take too long but felt like a very fulfilling amount of time. And I’m still pretty happy with the result.

And this journal is now three years old.
And it has become so large, DA's servers cannot quite handle any more additions
