I don't like the dialogue for this page that much, or the first one for that matter. I wanted it to seem like the narrator, Goldie (the unicorn in the comic), didn't know exactly what to say to comfort his sister but it's come off to general. Not to mention calling a pony strange may be considered offensive... by unicorns.

That isn't Derpy or Mac intentionally, but it does kind of look like them, minus the wings on Derpy.
As for Goldie, I just gave him a Star Trek t-shirt, I don't know why I put them in a sci-fi convention, it just seems like something a big brother might do. I took my sister to a few anime cons when we were younger.
