I'm glad you like it! I checked out your gallery. Maybe it's the colors and light in mine? Yours seems much more subdued. Maybe it's the location. The light is very bright in Florida where I grew up, and where I shot the reference photo for the painting.

You also seem to appreciate Salvador Dali. I do too, but surrealism isn't something I'm very good at. Reality is disturbing enough.

Thanks for your comment.

You're welcome.
....and true about reality. It is, indeed, disturbing.

Gosh, the distinction between the shadows and the light in this one is excellent, I really love your style...the colours are so vibrant. You really have some good ideas in your pieces. Keep up the good work.

Truly awesome. It says something about this country being the richest in the world and still not able to take care of its most needy citizens. Sure, have the free market, but does that mean those who do not benefit from it deserve to live in squalor?

It's difficult 1. to continue feeling patriotic when your country does awful things, and 2. weed out the awful things to focus on what the country was intended to become, instead of what it has, hoping for and perhaps working toward regaining that vision again.

Thanks so much for your comments!

Your gift is your application of shadow and light in your paintings. All of your paintings look like photos. Now, I don't know if you take that as a compliment, but trust me when I tell you it is meant to be the best compliment ever.

Moni3 In reply to StarbucksDream [2007-06-26 23:04:01 +0000 UTC]

I will graciously take that as a compliment. I do use photos as references and I take most of them myself (or my partner does). The finished paintings aren't quite like the photos, but I do like the play of light and I tend to exaggerate some features that I think are more attractive and inviting.

And I very, very much appreciate that you like the painting. Thank you!

A lot of people forget that power isn't everything. History teaches us that in so many painful lessons, but so many people forget or ignore them. Is it human nature or will we finally get enough lessons that it's impossible to ignore?

Thanks for the compliments!

Lovely lovely work. A shiny new flag does not a great government make..I am quite sure that the American people did not make the present administration. I well remember when President Gore receded. Where there is greed there is no true democracy. "God Bless us" never meant more..I am very thankful as a veteran there is a two term limit. May we survive this, and become the country we were founded to be a land where "greed and religion" had no control over the people that make this great land. BIG

Perhaps I shouldn't add such specific comments at all. I do like to know what people see or think without the artist's input, but then knowing the purpose behind the piece gives people an extra connection to the image...

Thanks for your comments!

I am ecouraged to know that I am not alone with regard to our country and our flag. You are so right about the heart of America existing in it's people. Hopefully the last seven years will wake them up and get them to the polls. Thanks for painting this and sharing it here.

Moni3 In reply to Webspider56 [2007-06-06 17:17:09 +0000 UTC]

No, you're not alone a bit. I wonder though, if people are aroused by 7 years of poor governing what they were thinking 8 years ago (I disliked and distrusted the president at once), and would the same tricks work again in the future.

Thanks as usual, for visiting.

As a Dutch guy living in Europe it sometimes feels if America is the country responsible for a lot of misery in the world... For me it's good to see that there are still people caring for their country despite the fact it's politically a mess.

Your painting says more than words! Well done! I hope a lot of people will feel the same way and react by putting positive input in their own community.

Moni3 In reply to wimpy3 [2007-06-06 12:36:40 +0000 UTC]

I know it seems hard for people outside the US to separate the actions of the government from the heart of the people. Please remember that this administration's term is one of the most unpopular in history and it consistently gets low ratings. Political disagreements always run hot, so although I feel like this piece is well-crafted, it might not get a lot of attention because of the comments I wrote up there. I don't care anymore.

I believe very strongly in what the people who started my country intended it to be. I hope that a new administration can live up to those ideals.

I appreciate your comments. Thank you very much.

Much like our imperfect country the house has more things right with it than wrong...With a bit of cooperation, hardwork and vision, we could make it the country it ought to be...Nice control of light and texture....

I like comments like this. It makes me think of how to put in words what I was thinking while painting it...

I've recently had a loss of idealism professionally and personally. I guess it only stands to reason that it coincided with my patriotic loss of idealism as well. Ironically, that's what I think is wrong with politicians - they have no idealism rather than their own self-serving interests. That seems a shame to me.

Thanks for the compliment and the favorite!
