Description
FINALLY!!!IT'S DONE.
Almost at least. I still lack the ammuntion belts, knife and a new beret 8D And I need a new haircut + bleaching.
But this is what my Ocelotcosplay looks like at 90% done.
Months of searching through the net after stuff, 300β¬ and a lot of menthal stress are over now.
And I am so happy.
We debuted last saturday at gamescom in cologne. And it was so much fun. We also met up with some other MGS cosplayer, who all looked awesome >3

I just debuted my Ocelot, but I'd like to know how you made the shoulderboards? They look very well done.

MorbusParkinson In reply to marketgarden [2011-02-21 17:52:36 +0000 UTC]
The shoulderboards? I'm surprised because I never uploaded a photo on DA where you can see them really.
Anyway, thank you.
I cut out teh fabric, sewed the golden stripes on them, made holes, put stars inside (easy to attach, I took original Major Stars from the Udssr), sewed it on jacket together with arms and collar.

Very interesting! As far as sewing little things like the stars and stripe on, how specific is that skill? I've just begun cosplaying and have only really begun to attempt sewing things.

MorbusParkinson In reply to marketgarden [2011-02-22 09:16:11 +0000 UTC]
I didn't sew the stars xD I bought them. They're made of soft metall.
Uh,... don't think it is very specific. I teach everything about sewing myself. The best method is "trial and error". By simply trying different methods to attach stuff you learn a lot. If it fails - deattach it and try again in a different way. It needs some patience but it works pretty "good" ;D

I'm getting to the bit now where I attach the shoulderboards. Do you sew along the edges or straight down the middle?
π: 0 β©: 1
MorbusParkinson In reply to marketgarden [2011-07-27 09:56:03 +0000 UTC]
edges, dear, only the edges or how do YOU plan to pull the sambrownbelt through????????????????????????????
take a closer look at real uniforms and you know what to do.

The gloves?
Oh dear, that was like one of the most easiest parts of the costume xDDD
They're not exactly like his but very similar. Though I guess I also have been a bit lucky to find them after a while for 11β¬ at eBay :3!

eBay.
The keyword is: searching. I spent weeks on the net and on eBay to find the right stuff.

Are you willing to tell us how you made it?
Also, how did you figure out what the medals were? ;_; I found out what the blue rhombus one was, but the other tiny one escaped me completely.
I'm looking to do an Ocelot myself, so....

MorbusParkinson In reply to Manga-Phoenix [2010-09-02 06:24:12 +0000 UTC]
How I made... what? XD Everything???
Well the small medal was easy going. I found it while looking through original Spetsnaz-stuff :3
I made the purple one myself from different fabrics I glued together.
Also the ... uhm... colorful stripe... whatever it is called -___- I made that from efaplast and acryl color.
The stars on my shoulders also are original 'major stars' from russia.
Oh well.. good luck with that one!

Sorry, I shoulda been more specific :'D I guess I meant, what pattern did you use for it? Unless you're so awesome that you didn't have to use one >.> (in which case I would feel like a complete newb - again)
π: 0 β©: 1
MorbusParkinson In reply to Manga-Phoenix [2010-09-09 07:42:07 +0000 UTC]
Oh.... uhm... I made the patterns by myself o____O...
But it's really not that complicated
π: 0 β©: 1
Manga-Phoenix In reply to MorbusParkinson [2010-09-09 13:26:15 +0000 UTC]
Man, I really need to go to a pattern-making class...
One random question: Did you have to use shoulder pads? (Cause I'll probably be doing that).
Now I'll stop bothering you xD
π: 0 β©: 1
MorbusParkinson In reply to Manga-Phoenix [2010-09-09 17:54:31 +0000 UTC]
I never visit a pattern making class o__O I... kinda... always... sew without patterns. Ocelot and pants in general are the only things I ever made a pattern for (for pants I bought one XD and on the base of that I made the pattern for Ocelot's breeches).
Usually I go like this: sqaure one = back squares 2+3 for front... squares 4+5 for arms and the rest is improvisation 8D
Uh... no... no shoulder pads... I didn't even had that idea xD Because everything additional makes sewing... a bother o_O I'm a lazy one 8D But shoulder pads... pretty... good idea o__O!
Oh well, I take it as a compliment when ppl bother me with 'how did you...' questions ^_^ΓΆ
