Description
Wandering Hive is a creature that lives thanks to the memory of the soul of a past creature.
Wild ordinary bees build ordinary hives. But sometimes, a special queen bee is born in a swarm. “The Queen who sees” is what she is called. She is much stronger than ordinary queen bees. Its feature is the presence of an additional pair of eyes. With their help, she can see the "clots". Clots are the remaining memory, memories and grains of life force in the concentrated form of a once living being. There are a lot of them on forests and plains, but not many creatures can see them. Example: on the left is the usual queen bee and her vision of the world, and on the right is“The Queen who sees”. But this bee can not only see the clots, but also interact with them. She, like a spider, can divide the clots into separate threads and with the help of her saliva build a hive frame. The frame is the primary foundation of the future hive. Whatever animal the bee chooses, the hive always grows like a living creature. From a very small to an adult large animal. The growth rate depends on the size of the colony of bees. The faster they can grow in size, the faster the hive grows.
“The Queen who sees” is trying to choose the most suitable, medium-sized animal. Animals less than a cat, raccoon or badger cannot become a wandering hive. Otherwise, the colony will not be able to grow further. Wandering hives behave like creatures whose “clots” were used for construction. It can be any terrestrial creature, suitable in size. They may sit, roam the countryside, or try to lean toward the grass to eat. However, they move much more slowly. Their movements are not chaotic. They can move to more flowering areas or leave the territory of another's hive. Also, they are very sensitive to temperature changes, which allows you to leave in advance from the place of a possible fire. Adult or old hives may exhibit a special ability called the “cry of memory." The hive does not need to eat and open its mouth, so it is limited in this. But during a cry of memory for a short time, the "clot" recalls part of his past life and tries to scream. In this case, the hive makes a barely audible, very quiet, wheezing sound.
Hives can live in whole packs if the colonies are friendly to each other. Also, they can be kept in captivity for beekeeping, but it is very difficult. However, the increase in honey from such a hive is several times higher than from ordinary bees. In order to start a home hive, you need to find a small hive just starting to be built. Then, using smoldering wood and smoke from it, scare away the bees and move the hive to the right place. All the same burning wood is used to collect honey. When most of the bees flew away from the hive, you can cut off ears if you need a small amount of honey and wax. When most of the bees flew away from the hive, you can cut off ears if you need a small amount of honey and wax. Bees will rebuild everything. If you need to collect as much as possible, then completely part of the hive is cut off under the imaginary ribs of the animal (most of the honey is there). Honey is collected in containers, and the cut is sealed with wax.
Sooner or later, the “clot” is completely weakened, and the colony is increasingly divided. After that, the hive begins to die. The wax on the body of the hive begins to darken and leak heavily. It is becoming increasingly difficult for bees to maintain the integrity of the hive and they leave it. Those that remain become more aggressive, so dying hives are best avoided. The end of Wandering Hives is most often one. Its remains lie at old stumps or in lowlands. Their wax darkens completely, the honeycombs break and spread. In this state, the hive resembles an empty shell of wax.

Awesome but terrifying. Is the animal the hive is based off of still aware inside them, or are they just copies of some memories?

Just some copies. Only sometimes it can manifest itself through the "Cry of memory." This is the moment when the soul for a few seconds realizes what is happening. But this is a very rare occurrence.

if they are a closed species how does one go about getting one? is it only on the basis of how the last two where sold off?

You can buy those that are on sale, or choose a creature on the basis of which the hive will be made and I will draw it for you. I have not yet issued a price-list, but it certainly will not be more than $ 25-30. I am going to do this later when I add a full description and variations species.

When the queen bee dies, does the hive die or a new queen takes her place?

Thanks so much for such a question! This helps to better think through the mechanics of the species.
If the “The Queen who sees” dies, the hive continues to live. In her place comes a new queen, but she may be ordinary, and not “The Queen who sees”. The peculiarity of “The Queen who sees” only in that it can build a frame.
I think it's worth adding this information to the second part.

They...scream because they're being utilised by a colony of bees and remember a past life, and despite their best efforts, they can only release a winded wheezing sound, even if they're in terrible emotional pain. Imagine that, dying, being brought back to life as an empty husk basically, and whenever you catch glimpses of your wonderful past life, all you can do is scream hoarsely in response. It's just....a really sad concept to me.
