Description
11x17 watercolor and colored pencil on watercolor paper. This one took me FOREVER!! I enjoyed playing with the warm and cool color combinations, though.Beauty has just arrived at the Beast's castle, and is warming herself by a welcoming fire. She doesn't see the "invisible" goblin servants, or the castle's owner watching her from the darkness.
And yes, it has knotwork in it.

Yep. Good old Strathmore cold press watercolor paper. It's not as good as Arches, but it's close --and cheaper, I think. I just prefer the sizes it comes in.

I love the tragic expression of the beast. He is just so heartbreaking standing there with his rose!

The colours work so well, they set the scene and how the fire lights up one side of the picture with warmth and to the back it is so cold and dark and the beast is between both sides... sorry me just looking deeper into the picture with the story in mind
The detail is just splendid! from the knotwork that is as pretty as always to the little eyes of whatever lurks in the shadows. The servent cratures are pretty cute to. Wonderful how it turned out, very nice work

beautifully done, however--I have a suggestion. At first glance it looks like the beast is floating and is simply smaller than the girl. Maybeyou should have overlapped to show he was in the back...for sure.

Hmmm... I may possibly be able to strengthen the lines and yellows on the stair he's stepping on, and deepen the shadows on the back leg. I'd tried overlapping her hand over his foot, but it made them look too close together, and I wanted some distance between them, as that't thematically important to the scene.
I may try messing with the stairs, though.

Wow, the color combinations really make for stellar highlights. I always love fairy tale illustrations. They really bring back the memories of childhood.

I'm doing a whole series of them, between other works.
I'm not sure what the next one will be. Probably Red Riding Hood. Snow White is going to be a killer piece, but I don't know if I'm ready to tackle that one yet. And after this one I need a break from interiors, so Cinderella may have to wait a while.
I have a Puss in Boots idea as well, but am not sure if it fits the story. I need to re-read it.
I've got plenty of others on the list, though.

Very nice. I like how the beast is kind of like the one in the french black and white film.
