The mythical creature of the mermaid wouldn't have a concept of modesty.
Art accurate to the mermaid myth would depict the creature as naked; However, it is not uncommon to also draw a mermaid wearing a bikini top.
Drawing mermaids with a top or without a top is both valid.
I like the shine in the mermaid's hair.
the water dripping out of her hair was a nice touch.
I really like the pose of the mermaid surfacing out of the water.

No, this picture isn't directly inspired by the little mermaid. At the beginning it was supposed to be a woman perfoming a ''hair water splash'' with a bright blue sky. But everything changed when I was doing color studies and decided to go with a sunset and replaced the woman by a mermaid to give a touch of sensuality to the painting.
Why the red hair? To me that was the perfect color combination to choose from to give the picture warmth.
So that's what I had in mind! But Yeah... The picture seems to gets its inspiration from the little mermaid because of the whole scenery and red head. However, I did love the little mermaid as a child so I guess my subconscious was working for me a little.
