Description
Well wellAs you can see i've zipped some files here. Its the highres version of the tutorial itself, and two jpeg images and a fractal image. Please use these if you want to achieve the same result as i've shown in the tutorial.
Damn this took some time. I was originally planning to make a spacepicture yesterday, but i ended up working on this one
I hope it'll be of use to you guys/girls. And please, if you guys have any questions, just ask

Nice tutorial, will help a lot of beginners! What's next? A cloud tutorial for the planet? That would rock!

I always wondered how you got those great textures on your planets!
This really helps me a lot

Sweeeeeeeet. Iยดve read tons of tutorials on planetmaking, and know the basics, but when it comes to explaining how to create the texture to begin with, Iยดve always been at a loss. Thanks so much for this.
Need to do some insane experiments right away.

Good work Arve! It should teach some people something new, seeing as you explain things other tutorials havent, & shown some of your innovative techniques. (the fractal for instance). I am sure this will help alot of people who kept asking for a tutorial hehe. You did a good job explaining to! Good work.

Oho, ^alyn and *sirgerg are gonna be pissed.
Personally - I like it. Wonderful insight to your texturing method. Although, you must note that with method you often end up with fairly evenly-textured, mottled, semi-interesting planets that could be much better replaced by planets that have had thought and a great deal more effort to their creation. I'm sure you yourself know how to experiment and deviate off the beaten track of this method to create excellent-looking planets, but others do not. I sincerely hope that we do not end up with a trendwhore new planet style because of this.
The tutorial is well made & each step is nicely explained. I like the footnote that leaves the technique thoroughly open to experimentation and variation. The point about knowing when to stop when creating textures is also true - some of the best peices are made on the spur of the moment with a good dose of inspiration.
Excellent work.

Dunno why they should be pissed actually. It is a good tutorial but as you said you will end up with a fairly evenly-textured planet. If that helps people getting started in the space section then that seems fine to me. I also see some things that i can apply so tnx *Mr-Frenzy

hehe, good point there. Well, as i stated in the end of the tutorial, im just pointing out some of the methods i use. Its up to the single individual to take it further and work out the details that seperate the average planet from the superb. Im planning on making a total of three tutorials on the texturing bit, basic intermediate and advanced, where im gonna enlight different ways of working with the textures.
Anyways, glad you liked it bro
