Description 13th Landing Road
Olympus Mons Colony,
Mars Colony
MA-00001
18th July, 2068

My dear friend P,

You left our planet chasing green,
But what did I find beside it here?
You found green, yes, but also red
Rusted, bleeding, under frigid air

I write of lofty dreams of fancy,
Heroes charging of to battle
Women swooning over sweethearts
Read by little else but cattle

Do they know the beauty that you see?
Do I?  Could back any here on Earth?
Stripped of the distraction and noise
Surely your life has much more worth

You've gone on a grand adventure
Fueled by perhaps but still!
My words will live on flaccid paper
Your words on a barren hill

They shall stay till the sun goes out
While mine shall soon be forgotten
Your work and words will live on
Long after humanity's corpse is rotten

There is nothing here you have not seen
Nothing left in the sea of gray
No inspiration but the oases of green
Rarer now than when you went away

You took life with you while I stayed
Longing to find my place, my prize
Now acclaimed but with only dreams
I cast to you my haunted eyes

Sorrowfully,
S.
