This looks like an extremely horrific, symbiotic relationship. A Vampiric witch perhaps who takes a little nip of her own back pet cat now and again when human blood cannot be had. No doubt never taking enough to do her beloved companion in, but instilling certain, ominous attributes in a witch's familiar which may cause her to consider keeping the coffin lid closed when she sleeps and ebony cats creep.
