CHAPTER ONE:

THE LADY BUG

(UNFINISHED)

HENRY EYED THE SMALL INSECT.It's beady, little eyes stared back. Henry blew a steady breath at the beetle, But it didn't even move one leg, let alone flinch, on his grubby, little hand.

It's glossy, red back dotted with seven, perfect

spots gleamed in the evening light.

SLAP! A stinging sensation ran through Henry's

cheek, willing him to cry, but he held both his

physical and emotional feelings steady.

“Henry! Don't be a fool to dirty your hands with

such a disgustinginsect! Men of the Lemaine

family did not waste their time on such things!

Come along to the car when you are cleaned

up and ready, Do not take up any more of my

precious time!” A tall woman sneered, with a

highly irritated expression.

“Yes Aunt Marian”Henry replied quietly.

He heard her mumble about gardeners,

bug killers and repellants as she trotted

away, off towards the car.

Henry had flinched when Aunt Marian had

used past tense: ' did not'as she had talked about

the Lemaine men. It hurt to think of his father,

as he had passed away along with Henry's mother

two long years ago in a terrible kidnapping accident.

Henry was only five then, but still, the memory was

like a glass pane, cleaned,wiped,scrubbed, and

dried so many times and so carefully, it was so

clean it was like pure light or energy itself.

The smile on Henry's mother's face as she told

him 'It'll only be a minute' as she left him out

in the gardens, the forest around him had been

bursting with life. Toads croaked, Birds sang,

ducks dove underneath the very surface of

the water. He could still smell the scent of the

pine trees drifting in the wind, and the ecstasy

in the rose bushes as they vibrantly presented

their scarlet hue on their soft, delicate petals.

Henry let the delightful memory pass by,

he didn't want to remember what had happened after....Those gigantic, sweaty hands, pressed tightly

around his skin, the man's breath as

he told Henry to keep qui-

STOP IT! He told himself, shivering despite of the

warmth of the the afternoon sun on his back.

Henry was just about to wipe tears on the

verge of falling down his cheeks when he

remembered the lady bug on his finger.

He was reminded of what Aunt Marian had said

about the insect and the lecture and his

hidden anger was unleashed.

He screamed at the lady bug.

“LOOK AT WHAT YOU'VE DONE! YOU'LL

SUFFER FOR HAVING ME GET SCOLDED AT!”

Henry raged at the creature.

He was well aware that it had not been the

bug's fault at all, but honestly his'. But from

the fear of even just the memory of the kidnapping

and his parent's death, he still could

not cope enough to even just spare a life

of an innocent. However how small it may be.

He grabbed the insect between his two fingers,

barely holding onto it, and brought it to a very,

very shallow, and muddy puddle of non purified ,

rain water. He let his grasp go from the lady bug

above the puddle, and there was not even the

slightest noise to identify that the bug had dropped.
