Two variety of merbeings.
one if the seahorse female, thin almost emaciated body, willowy sea through gill like tail.

second is a seal merbeing, close shaven head, or body is covered with short thick fur. the female sports a furry chest to protect against cold and a more ample body. her tail is made of water resistent fur with a flipper like fluke. her hands are to be noted they are thick and made for powerful strokes, hand branches out into stumpy fingers made to clutch at slippery objects. she has whiskers to detect prey underwater.
