I appreciate it when artists are willing to accept they aren't perfect and instead of use that phrase as a disclaimer on everything they do actually try to improve and geez you got to so much better almost instantly! Though you were still great before~

Thus I never fully understood the structure of it

You are doing amazingly! I love how those headshots turned out. I adore the realism and I like your stylalized versions too. They are all so pretty!
I personally could use to use more refs too...it is good to use them now and again especially if you tend to draw a lot of the same species like equines or canines just so you keep your memory of their anatomy sharp.

The funny thing is that I drew that head-shot on the bottom left without a ref first, and I was pretty pleased with how it looked. Then I actually used a ref and was just like "....... Oh...... Well that one stinks" haha.
But I enjoy using a ref. I never really have. Especially not for heads.
It's exciting to see such rapid improvement from just one sit-down.
