Part 1 of the Making-of of a complex drawing. For all of you who are curious about the process. You can see the second part of this tutorial here: [link]

Now I will explain a bit this first steps:

1: Making a quick sketch. I draw it directly with the graphic tablet, with a brush with a high opacity for the line work. In a layer beneath the line I paint the base colors as a reference, to know if I would like it, and it serves as a palette as well.
Normally I should have drawn all the figure and the bow and all, but when I start a new drawing, I always want to go fast and I miss many steps. :S

2: Beware of the light! Now I study from where the light comes before starting to work with the shadows. Once I have it clear, I draw the body and the face.

3: I start to work in the hair. As it bores me a lot, I will finish it later...

4: Now I draw the leather and the arrow. I always use a lot of different layers over the original body. This makes it easier to edit any mistake.
