She was born human. When she was six years old her parents died in a freak baking accident...or so she was told. So she and her older brother Titian were sent to live with their Aunt Renee, who was also a freaky doctor. Renee had been trying to find the missing link between humans and other creatures. Her theory was that since humans share 99% of their DNA with monkeys, surely it could work in many different forms.

After finally discovering the link she tried an experiment she labeled G.I.M. or GIOTTO INDUSTRIES MUTANTS. After it failed six times she decided to try it on her sisters children, Titian and Monet.

It worked on Titian and he was branded G.I.M. 7 then it worked on Monet or G.I.M. 8.

Monet was twelve at the time of the transformation and experienced a flow of horrible emotional turmoil, so she and Titian ran away.

After they ran away, Monet and Titian found shelter in an old abandoned church where they lived until they met the turtles. By this time Monet had grown accustomed to her turtle self and was willing to stay...but part of her longed to be human so she and Titian devised a plan to turn themselves human again. By using a powerful gun they could channel the protiens that made them mutants and then become human again.

There was one problem with the gun...it ran on a powerful syrum that could only be triggered through pressurized carbon...otherwise known as diamonds.

Monet then became an anti-hero...she did good and bad things for her own reasons. She stole priceless jewels to save herself and battled the hero turtles to acheive her human form again...but will she ever get that way?

During an ambush by Giotto's henchmen Titian was kidnaped and Monet went to live with the TMNT. She still continued to work on the gun though.
