Yeah, i probably should have paid more attention to that side of things, i had rough reference open, but this was mostly intended to be a quick piece. No real excuse though

By the look of it you were probably looking at vikings. If that is the case your only problem is the shields and its handles. you just need a central grip. If you want something else to explore try the Varangian guards

Tricky thing about armors is that most things are just too speciffic to ignore, my advice is you look at re-enactor photos here on dA.
