Description "German Springback" bound with 90(ish) pages, gold edged and round-cornered. (All by hand! No fancy edge-cutters for me. Trusty scalpel and a cotton reel.)
Covered in hand-dyed chamois leather. Yip, that is the soft thin yellow leather you clean your car with.
Hand-embriodered head-bands of gold and green thread. Hand-painted end papers.
Green velvet marker ribbon. Raised circle on the cover, surrounding a knotwork design in gold (yes, I created that too).

12 cms wide
15 cms high
2.5 cms thick

This was an extremely time-consuming and intensive book, not only because of the type of binding, but because I did everything I possibly could do myself.
A Springback tutorial can be found here: [link]
Also, I highly recommend trying out chamois as a covering material. It is soft, supple, cheap, easy to work with, and feels good.

A few tips:

- Wash it really well first. Soak it completely and wash it thoroughly with gentle soap. Rinse well, wring out and hang up to dry out of direct sunlight.

- And, it is easier, when gluing chamois to your book, to lay the glue on the board, not the chamois.

I loved creating this book, it was an absoloute joy. And I'm glad I went for the knotwork on the cover. I taught myself the art years ago, and have gotten away from it lately, so it was good to create that quick knot. I think it is pretty.

And for the curious, my design page for this book: [link]

Oh, also, This type of book is fun to make, and quite easy, but the tutorials I have seen can be unnecessarily confusing. I've been thinking about creating an easier-to-follow tutorial for a book of this type. Let me know if you would be interested in something like that, and if enough people do, I'll put one together.

Lovelove.

how much does this cost to buy off from you if you were to make another one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

myceliae In reply to IceFireX [2008-01-03 00:59:56 +0000 UTC]

Ok. I don't do duplicates. Re-creating a book exactly would be no creative challenge for me at all, and this one was made specifically for someone. The design on the cover is uniquely *him*... and would lessen the magic if there was another one floating about... do you see what I mean? I could, however, make subtle changes in whatever way you might like, so that it would be unique to YOU. Best way to get a quote is to go to my website and fill in the form here : [link] being as detailed as possible with what you wanted. I can then get back to you with a proper quote.

Hehe, you never know! "Elven" was just one word that was mentioned when this book was commissioned. But maybe i'll get around to making some other magical creature's books.

This is by far one of the best artisan crafts pieces I've come across in my time on dA. The time and effort you've put into this is so plain to see. (By the way how long did it take? I'm almost afraid to ask...) I applaud your dedication, you must be so proud of this piece. I only usually feature deviations in my journal for a week or so, but I love this one so much I'll feature it for a whole month. Really well done.

Here's your feature: [link]

Wow, thankyou! *hug*
How long did this one take... it was such a long time ago (feels like, anyhow), I can only guess... maybe a week-ish?
This was actually the first proper Springback book that I did, and it's still my favourite!

*chuckles* Thankyou. As of this moment, i've no need for any more first-borns. I do have a lovely stack of them already, along with the box of treasured memories, and a few "sight-in-one-eye" payments too.
I am, however, open to suggestions
