i lost one of my favorite bras a few days ago, if you see it in the fractal gallery please let me know
apparently some deviants cannot read .. i would suggest that right of the "choose" DA puts an XXXXXXX category, for analphabets
my guess is that gallery will be full in no time

ugh yeah I know.. I spend HOURS reporting things from the fractal gallery. I mean seriously if a person isn't SURE that what they are submitting belongs in the fractal gallery I can guarantee you 100% IT DOES NOT!!!! Just shows me how many people don't take their art seriously, it drives me nuts!!

Sometimes I try to fight crap like this. Other times I just ascribe to the motto "Life sucks and then you die." It all depends on what kind of mood I'm in at the moment. LOL!

I'm usually like that actually... apathetic and stuff (which is ironic given the nature of this topic) but sometimes something just gets on my tits (apologies for the language and for the fact I don't really have any ) and it becomes my personal obsession. This week, it's misplaced deviations, next week my OCD will give me something else to obsess about.

I just can't believe the amount of hostility and general stupidity I am encountering in the forums about this matter. I'm not asking for a cure to cancer or for my face on the twenty dollar bill, I'm just asking that people be a bit more considerate where they post their stuff and I proposed a solution to the devs which is a simple solution that simply involves setting a default value to "My Scrapbook" where one would select the category where they want their deviations to go - serious people would STILL choose where their deviations go so nothing would change except for those lazy mofo bastids who just crawled out of the pond which would make it EASIER for them since they wouldn't have to choose anything at all - in lieu of clicking on the first thing closest to their mouse pointer. I fail to see how this would make things anything but BETTER for everyone. But yet, there are those antediluvian knuckle draggers who haven't the simplest grasp of the English language who completely misinterpret my post thinking that my idea would make the galleries even more disorganized.
*DEEP BREATH*
I should have just kept all of this to myself. I'm surrounded by idiots in real life and the internets.

Jeff --
Several of us Fractal Artists have been complaining about this in our journals. It seems that kids no no better, and I've been discussing with the Helpdesk about getting something in place about frequent abusers. To date, "it's been considered".
put together a fantastically snarkish journal entry back at the beginning of the year venting the same frustration (along with a couple of other frustrations some of us feel when going through some of the other categories). You should check it out when you get the chance.
I can say though that the Fractal group has been overworked when it comes to cleaning up fractals. I noticed that I've been getting resolutions to requests that I had put in for December 2008 back around May. They seem to be getting caught up, but it's been a slow process.
Don't let it get to you, and when it does, walk away and let the rest of us go at it.

I just posted a suggestion in the forums a few moments ago, one that should be easy enough to implement and would solve everything. [link]
I'm quite sure that "our" section isn't the only one suffering the misplaced deviation problem, but I AM sure that being at the top of the category list doesn't help. I am absolutely positive that the Xylophone Xerography (OK, I made that up << doesn't suffer the same problem.
The solution to the problem is as simple as having the devs set a default category as stated in my post to the suggestion forum.
I just tried sifting through Coraybee's journal entries to find the entry you mentioned, but I must admit the alkeehawl is starting to kick in right now and my vision is somewhat impaired
.... perhaps tomorrow
I'll just keep reporting deviations until dA get's sick of seeing my name and does something about it - or until I'm banned lol, but I won't walk away.

Ha ha... To help you with your iimmppeennddiinngg ddoouubbllee vviissiioonn I found the entry: Coraybee's Rant
I'm not sure whether allowing them to set their default on the user level is going to help any more... In fact, given what I've seen of some fractal artists that post elsewhere, I can see that causing quite a stir as well.. Heck, did that recently by posting a great photograph she had taken into the Fractal Art section of the group.
But I think there might be a solution to this -- straightening out the submissions categories. Seems that the submit deviation category tree is using the previous version, which is a pain in the ass to navigate as opposed to looking through the categories in View Mode. I think there's been mention of that being cleaned up.

Oh wow, hahaha that was a fun read! Coraybee is full of piss and vinegar - I like!
Something I just noticed is that although the "My Scrapbook" is at the very top of the category tree, "3D and Fractal Art" is directly to the right of the "Choose" button. I still think that having the default value set to "My Scrapbook" or a "No category" section would solve the bulk of the misplaced miscreants... erm... deviations. I wholeheartedly believe that if the 3D and Fractal ARt section were placed at the bottom of the tree, that section would see over 90% of misplaced submissions halted. I don't think members are consciously and intentionally polluting that section with their stuff - it's just a matter of convenience and laziness. It's easier to move the mouse pointer a few pixels to the right than to move it elsewhere. But if the default value were already set to scraps (obviously if they are too lazy to properly categorize their stuff, they don't really give a damn about their "art" enough to actually do so) then those lazy bastids would save one more step, while those of us who DO care wouldn't have to change our behaviour in any way whatsoever.
(Why does Firefox keep flagging my proper spellings of "behaviour", "colour", etc as typos??? Screw you, FF, those ARE the proper Queen's English spellings! )

The sad thing is that person is probably too lazy to download Apophysis or another fractal program and learn how to use it. You can make fractals in any paint or photmanipulation program in less time than it takes to choose the right category.
Or they don't care about making good art. Oh well. At least I know where to go to look at good fractal art! Something that they are to lazy to find or even care about

My beef isn't really about "good" art, I'm just asking that people not be so lazy and put their submissions in the appropriate category. I could care less about what people consider to be art, but I DO care about the general apathy of some members here.
Posting on dA is a privilege, not a right. I just wish that people would not abuse that privilege.

dA needs a better system of organizing art...

To be fair, dA has a more than adequate system of organizing art. There categories and subcategories galore that covers just about any genre imaginable.
The problem isn't dA, the problem is lazy people. 3D Art/Fractals just happens to be at the top of the list and some people are just too lazy to scroll through all the categories to find the appropriate category, so they click on the first thing they see.
