Description

Just felt compelled to redraw this [my first ever commission] on my own accord. Started back in June but just found the sketch since I've been unpacking the rest of my art things.

Interesting fact(s): I used the same cardstock, inking pens, Sharpie and colour pencils. Only addition is Prisma markers for the colour base. Both took almost the exact same time to complete [3hrs].

Crazy, eh? Here's the (original) .

Wow... this is cool to see!
Your shading overall has really improved and facial expressions! OMG! The bane of my life! Lol

While I always liked your old style (hell, I commissioned you several times didn't I? ) you really have improved and it's awesome to see that in such an effective manner. Look at the clothing! It actually pulls and folds more realistically, especially her boots and shirt. I like the dark shading, but that's just me maybe.

"I'm not looking for statements saying that you prefer/like the old one more. :T Seriously, does no good."

Then what kind of statements are you looking for then? Forced flattery? Dishonest compliments?

While both are done with the same materials, they're appropriate for displaying your development as an artist. That being said, I enjoy the older personally, as I have a fondness for too-large ears.

And for some reason, the purple color for shading in the newer one looks a little heavy. I think it's just the scan though.

I'm not aiming for any particular remarks- I've just got a history with comparison shots resulting in nothing more than distaste towards my overall improvements simply because they like my old 'style' etc.

I do honestly appreciate that you could say something else other than "lol i like the 2004 one better"...and that be it. Oi! If there's some sort of basis as to why, I can respect that. (:

My reason behind preferring the older work is that it is more true to the anime-like style than your new style. The newer style/improvement is a bigger step towards more exact anatomy and realism, if that makes sense. I like anime (as do loads of your watchers), so I understand why a lot of people like your older works.

I will also agree that the lame comments like "I like the older one." with nothing else is useless. It doesn't explain why nor does it offer any feedback.

On the note of feedback, it's your art. I hope your improvements are more for your own personal reasons than catering to others' whims. I've watched you for a long time and have seen the movements forward. I also envy your skills with colored pencils as I've used your art (as well as many other talented colored pencil artists' art) as a guide to help me improve my coloring. I can't say it's worked to the level I'd like, but I felt like I needed to tell you that I appreciate your work, regardless of how much I like or dislike it at time.
