wow! the right theme at the right time (my aluminum apple-keyboard arrived twenty minutes ago ...)!
(but i can't install appmenu. got the error-message "ERROR: cmake/modules/FindKDE4Internal.cmake not found". maybe i have to switch from my actual opensuse-system back to arch or kubuntu ... opensuse is the best system to make trivial things difficult. °_°)

i had have some eqal problems, i solved them with
"sudo update-alternatives --config qmake"
cuz qmake was set to kde3 module
otherwise it could be you´re missing kde5libs-dev(el)
or, from a forum
"You need to install cmake.
Make sure to have at least
kernel-source
gcc (which should pull in linux-kernel-headers too)
make
and you should make sure you have the development packages for qt and kde. "

after trying all the hints you wrote - without success, certainly - my very uneasy relationship to openSuse is about to escalate once again ...
i will reinstall my computer even tonight. i only have to chose which distribution will win the palm. will i return to Kubuntu or Arch? or will i try Fedora to conquer one of the last blank spot in my Linux landscape?

back in the days i had to make equal decisions, but today i´m on kubuntu only. i use my notebook for my job and so it has to work almost out of the box without bricolage hehe

how funny! i choose Kubuntu too this very night. and i was satisfied about it once again.
BUT - i have to confess, i'm a digital rolling stone - just two hours ago (from now) i read an article about Mageia's first release and i couldn't resist to download the Kde-version instantly.
Mandriva was one of the few distributions i steer clear of - until now. but i will give the community-fork out of it a chance ...
so - after i pressed the Send-button for this message, my "workstation" will be prepared for re-installation. and if Mageia is suitable, i will be back online again in about two hours. if not, it will take one more hour and i'll be back here on Kubuntu again.

p.s.: installing appmenu failed on my Kubuntu as it did on openSuse. thousend-and-one development packages where required and i gave up after a compiler-message about a missing X11-parameter i never heard about. maybe god and evolution don't want me to get it ...

well, i have to say, that i spent the last years with installing one distribution after the other on my little workstation. and every Linux-system lives on my desktop until i read some worthwhile informations about another one. then i clear my local disk and start anew. this means de facto, that i never work with one system longer than two or three weeks. and sometimes i change my system faster than my underwäsch' 
i'm able to do this, because i have all data either in a cloud or on a separate disk, so i only have to backup Firefox-profiles etc. before i format my primary hd ... THIS is a wonderful way of digital life - i confess ...
while all main distributions i've tested - (K/X/L)Ubuntu, Arch, Debian, Fedora (which i never used longer than some hours), openSuse - and almost minor sub-distros - like Mint-, CrunchBbang-, Sabayone- and even Bodhi-Linux - work on my system "out of the box" with no need to change the standard-configuration and no error-messages - Mageia needs even manual interventions to get - for example - the compositing of Kwin running. on every boot, there are so many error-messages rushing so fast over my screen (for ten seconds or more) so the lines are growing hazy ...
this i not a real working system like the others. but i decided to invest more time for this distro, because it's their first release - apart from the thousand-and-one years, Mandriva was developed

Ja, das mit dem testen kenn ich, mein erstes Linux hatte ich in den 90ern zu laufen, seeehr komfortabel.
Ich habs aber füher immer so gehalten, dass ich ein festes laufendes Sys hatte und ne zweite Partition fürs Testen.
Na und Cloud kommt für mich nicht in Frage, die ganzen Mandantendaten wären mir ein zu großes Datenschutzrisiko
Bzw. ich müsste es denen gegenüber dokumentieren und mir deren Einverständnis holen, dass ist auch zuviel Aufwand hehe.
Mandriva war ja schon oft sehr gut, manchmal hatten sie mit ner Release nen Hänger drin, aber ich hatte es mal ein ganzes Jahr als Produktivsystem und war sehr zufrieden.

Ach, es tut mir gut, mal wieder was in Deutsch zu lesen (und zu schreiben), weil ich dies - Mutter sei Dank! - viel besser verstehe als Englisch. Ich versuche normalerweise, mich aber durch die Niederungen fremdsprachlicher Ausdrucksweisen zu quälen, allein um in Übung zu bleiben.
Mandantendaten? Ne, so etwas gehört wahrlich nicht in die Cloud. Hab' erst letztens einen Artikel in der ct' gelesen, was man alles beachten müsste, wenn man es denn täte. Mir wurde ganz schlecht beim Lesen und noch viel schlechter, als ich daran dachte, wie - äh - unbedarft manche (Ex-)Kollegen so mit dem Thema Datenschutz umgingen.
Aber so für meinen persönlichen Gruscht ist sie genau richtig. Über Diebstahl muss ich mir keine Gedanken machen, weil jeder, der meine Unterlagen sichten würde, sich augenblicklich totlachen würde - was Problem und Problemateuer beseitigt.
Um Mandriva habe ich aus mir selbst unerklärlichen Gründen immer einen Bogen gemacht. Und bei der Installation von Mageia ist mir auch gleich ein Ding ins Auge gesprungen, was Pendelwert und Co. wohl instinktiv richtig machen: Mandriva ist seit langem die erste Distro, die mich vor der Installation eine Lizenzerklärung unterschreiben ließ, die mich - gehe ich auch nur um ein weniges fehl - vermutlich Haus und Hof, Familie und Katze, Barthaar und Freiheit kostet und die mich ins tiefste Elend stürzt, sollte ich ich nur einmal nicht genau (!!!) dass tun oder denken, was mein neuer Lehnsherr Ma-ndriv/gei-a will. *schauder*
Aber nun gut, da ich beschlossen habe, mir das Ganze genauer anzusehen, habe ich meinen Kopf in die Schlinge gelegt und zugezogen. Und falls dies nicht bringt, habe ich ja immer noch ein neues Netbook mit Windows 7 Starter drauf. Wenn das nicht reicht, um selbst Mutter Theresa in den Knast zu bringen, was dann?!

Oh ja, der Datenschutz. Da gehen viele unbedarft mit um, da hast du wahr. Wenn ich nur dran denke, wie manche eMails schreiben, mit allen Namen und Adressen offen, und dann wird das weitergeleitet und immer mehr Adressen sammeln sich in einer Mail lol
Meinen Kunden/Mandanten ist es manchmal auch schon zuviel, ne Datenschutzerklärung zu unterschreiben, und da geht es doch um deren Daten, tststs.

Okay! Lassen wir M.T. mal außen vor. Alles was ich von dieser Frau weiß, ist aus vergilbten und speckigen Frauenzeitschriften entnommen, die ich als kleiner Bub aus purer Verzweiflung las, wenn ich beim Frisör auf meine Mutter wartete. Und auf der Liste der Personen, über die ich gerne mal recherchieren würde, liegt sie selbst dann nur auf einem der letzten Plätze, wenn ich einen Stapel weiße Blätter nach Wichtigkeit geordnet untersortieren würde ...
Dann doch lieber über Word-Dokumente plaudern. Auch wenn ich mich mittlerweile in der überaus glücklichen Lage befinde, meine Arbeitswerkzeuge nach ergonomischen und ethischen Gesichtspunkten frei wählen zu können.
Im Übrigen lässt sich auch mit "guter" Software Unsinn treiben. Viele Leute wissen eben nur das Nötigste über ihr Werkzeug - und der Arbeitgeber z.B. zahlt auch nur dafür. Und selbst EDVler waren baff erstaunt, wenn ich ihnen ihre PDF-Dateien ganz ohne die sorgsam eingefügten Schwärzungen ausdruckte und vor die Nase hielt. Und manch' sensible Email landet quasi im WorldWideWeb, weil der Empfänger während seiner Abwesenheit in gutem Glauben eine Weiterleitung an sein privates Postfach schaltet ...

well, i'm back and back on Kubuntu again - but maybe this time only for a moment. i've made some very strange experiences, during the installation "adventure" of Mageia. i've never seen so much error-messages running down the screen for minutes while booting an os ...
finally it shows a very handsome configured Kde-Desktop. but when i tried to activate the 3d-abilities of the graphic adapter, it receipt my efforts with a breakdown.
after i reinstalled Kubuntu it looks slightly different, but i can't tell what it is exactly. the fonts look somehow washed out. the only thing i can tell definitely, is that my bluetooth adapter is dead ...
this sounds so strange, i'm not sure, that i can believe my own impressions ...
i think, i will repeat the whole procedure to take a deeper look at Mageia. maybe i have spited the ghost of Mandriva 'cause i erased it from my system. so i have to put on my shaman dress, fill my working room with smoke from a calumet and try to appease the ghosts i've called ...
