Amazing! Looks like he or she was recently eating.
Very cool. When I was in Yellowstone a few years ago, we saw several packs, but most of the wolves were either black or predominantly gray. Didn't see any that tended toward white... this guy is gorgeous.

How far are you from them? They don't come after you or something?

these are shot with long telephoto lenses so i'm not as close as it would seem. As long as you give wolves the distance and respect they deserve they really offer no threat towards people. It's the other way around really.

Oh ok I understand now. Is it the same with bears too?

Nate-Zeman In reply to WarpHedgehog [2009-05-06 01:11:32 +0000 UTC]
well bears are more dangerous than wolves so you definitely need to keep your distance from them. but with any wildlife you should keep your distance just to give them the respect they deserve.. dangerous or not

Yes of course I agree. I heard that sometimes that bears follow you too.

i really hope i get to see a wolf in the wild someday, and be able to get a photograph of one as good as this. very outstanding, it seems like you have this unique connection with wildlife photography.

im trying to plan a trip out there either in the late summer or in the fall...i did some research and i hear the lamar valley is the best spot to view wolves in the park, unless you know of a better spot? ha

Nate-Zeman In reply to PeterJCoskun [2009-05-03 18:59:11 +0000 UTC]
if you have a choice i would definitely do the fall. youll have the park to yourself and the wildlife is very active that time of year. as far as where to see wolves (now keep in mind im not an expert on the subject)... In my experience the Lamar is a great spot to VIEW wolves but its usually at a great distance. I've had better luck in other parts of the park. With wolves though theres no real rhyme or reason to when or where youre going to see them. unless you know of where a kill is or something like that. They can cover a huge distance in a single day and can pop out in front of you at any time.

yeah, fall is my main focus but only if time allows. i know theres going to be tons of people during the summer. and it doesnt really matter how close i am to one, i have a telephoto lens and some of my favorite shots are of wolves with a lot of their natural habitat around them. id rather give them their space anyways, wouldnt want to provoke them for any reason

Nate-Zeman In reply to PeterJCoskun [2009-05-03 19:09:07 +0000 UTC]
yeah for sure those are my favorite kind of photos too. but when i say great distances im talking about something youd need a spotting scope to see. thousand yards out or more. but trust me just seeing them is worth it

PeterJCoskun In reply to Nate-Zeman [2009-05-03 19:11:18 +0000 UTC]
yeah, theres just some things i need to experience in wildlife to appreciate it more. i mean, i guess i could try to get closer to them, but, i might be taking a very big chance with that haha...i need to get a new telephoto and extender anyways

well as with most wildlife is a good idea to let them decide how close they want to get to you. im going to try to get out there this fall also

yeah, just the area alone seems like you could spend forever there and never be bored, though, seeing a wolf and a grizzly would be an awesome experience for a first trip ha

as long as you go there and dedicate your time to seeing stuff ittl happen. you just need to be up really early and out really late. most of the people who go to yellowstone and come back complaining about not seeing anything are the people who spent all their time in the park between 12-3pm
π: 0 β©: 1
PeterJCoskun In reply to Nate-Zeman [2009-05-03 19:30:41 +0000 UTC]
yeah, i would be up before sunrise and leave after sunset, plus those are the best hours to photograph let alone see all the wildlife being active...12-3, thats something my parents would do ha

I love the way the wolf stands out and at the same time blends in. The red on his neck is the exact shade of red that those flowers have and his fur matches looks like hay! Great picture, even though its eyes are small they look amazing.
I feel like I am in that place when looking at your photo(s).Great job!
