Description The current camouflage pattern used by the U.S Army, it's now been phased out slowly by the Multicam pattern.
Not really a "Universal" camouflage pattern but it seems to be work well in the rocky mountains of A-Stan and most urban scenarios. But I like the looks of it.

Took 2 hours for the coloring and probably half an hour for sketching.

Lineart was done with a 0.5mm mech pencil.
Base coloring was done with PS CS5, along with the ACUPAT.
Shading and extra details were done with Paint Tool SAI.

The ACUPAT/UCP is a pain to the rear to paint but less than CADPAT, MARPAT or even Multicam since it has only 3 colors.

EDIT: Darkened the lineart. Definitely need to do that step before coloring.

XD I should start making varied unit patches, since it would be redundant after a while

I really like the detail on the patch, and the kit looks spot on!

Personal fan of ACU/CADPAT digi patterns.

Thanks, though I learned a bit more about vest loads shortly after that one XD, mostly the utility pouches and personal first aid kits.

Oddly enough i have my mind set on joining 101ST. One of their guys came down today to talk to us about enlisting. i walked up to him and we exchanged some words then it turned into a conversation. afterwards i have my mind set.

Just 3 More. No contact from CF Recuriter yet?. I Was wondering what profession do you seek to find in the CF?

Well, it can take around three months or so, my fingers are crossed for November 7. Infantry was the trade I picked, I'm wondering if it was a good choice since the CF since it is full on infantrymen, they are mostly looking for engineers and technicians nowadays.

Yeah, that's the 101st, the "airborne" patch isn't very visible because the pencil drawing wasn't too big.

Yup, the good ole' "Screaming Eagles." I had a cousin who served in the 101st Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment.

Nice, did he liked his experience in the force?

SouthernWriter2 In reply to NDTwoFives [2012-07-13 20:17:07 +0000 UTC]

He was willing to serve, and to serve his country. But he told me to think very, very, very hard if I wanted to join. He saw horrific things overseas, and after he served 8 years, he was willing to let his contract run up. He was ready to get out, to get his education, and move on with his life.

Great pose and proper body proportions.

The M-4 looks a bit too stretched forward.

Perhaps the receiver of the gun and the stock are too short compared with the handguard and the tip of the barrel.

Thanks pal, seems that you're right on this one, maybe the stock needs to be raised slightly as well.

Drawings guns from angles and perspectives is never easy. But practice helps a lot.

NDTwoFives In reply to Panzerfire [2012-07-08 16:41:29 +0000 UTC]

I think that a perspective grid would come in handy for things like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Panzerfire In reply to NDTwoFives [2012-07-14 14:42:05 +0000 UTC]

Oh yeah. I often apply a small perspective grid to draw weapons. I used it to great effect in this project: [link]

One little suggestion, try using a ruler when drawing/inking your guns or other solid objects, it helps to bring a sense that it's indeed a solid object.

Nice work ND. I know about the pain of this camo. Lucky me my commanding officer did not check the box my "gift" (miracle) came in. Now me and my squad when we are out on patrol we go out in some khaki cargo pants and white T-shirts. It is not the best but guess what? It has saved my ass from getting shot three times over. When you are in the desert a filthy white T-shirt and some khakis blend in a lot more than the digital gray uniforms we were supplied with.

NDTwoFives In reply to raging-wolves [2012-06-29 14:56:08 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! Were you former US Army?
Yeah, I think that solid colors would blend better in dull environments like desrts.

raging-wolves In reply to NDTwoFives [2012-06-30 01:13:20 +0000 UTC]

Close but I keep the cigar. I am an ACTIVE U.S. MARINE. Better than the digital camo but not always. In certain area of the dessert wearing a pure white pimp suit would make you almost invisible. This is because in the intense heat the sand can harden and reflect the light looking white. Also, if you were in the alaskan tundra, a light blue uniform would be almost indistinquishable from the ground because the light causes an optical illusion baking colors blend.

Yeah, "universal camouflage pattern" was a lie, it's totally useless even in an urban environment. Looks cool though ^^

I think it looks pretty nice too, but for aesthetics only.

Streaked-Silver [2012-06-28 12:28:00 +0000 UTC]

actually.. it only works in the mountains of A-stan if you roll around in the dirt for a good little bit first, XD its quite worthless and every army guy i talk to hates it. now that Multicam? that stuffs pretty sweet.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

NDTwoFives In reply to Streaked-Silver [2012-06-28 13:03:05 +0000 UTC]

Insurgent: The desert is all brown...what's that gray spot here?
*Shoots into that big strange gray rock*
US Army guy: Medic! We got a man down here!

Yeah, Multicam's gradients allows it to blend more effectively in its surroundings.

Yep, not too many people would dedicate themselves into making their own camouflage patterns. Some would just paste a random and repeated sample picture found on the internet.
