NekoNariko — Why Cube Hasn't Been to a Con

Description That's not even my car, that's my friends car. Pulling the poor cube out of the car and stuffing him back in every time we went out to shoot, or changed locations..... it was an ordeal. Poor cube won't even fit in my car. Just getting him through doorways can be quite trying...

Taken when shooting our Portal 2 Music Video

Edit: The cube has been skinned and can now be seen at Cons. Was Debuted at Dragon*Con, and I hope to get some better photos up soon.

Wow, I was planning on doing a PVC and foam structure that was collapsable, but an inflatable inside.... that might be a better way to go... Area you talking about vinyl as the heat-sealable fabric? I wonder how that would all work out...

Not vinyl, it's a weatherproof canvas fabric made for packs and excursion gear. It's probably kind of expensive though.
Now I'm wondering if there's some pre-made inflatable cube-shaped item you could buy, like a giant novelty dice or something. It'd be hard to find the precise size, probably.

I actually think that Tech Shop might have a heat sealer. And Vinyl seems like it would be a good medium for that, if you can actually seal the seams. A canvas fabric seems like it might be a bit heavy...But I've never seen this fabric, so yeah. Do you have any more info on this?

I've seen it at a local outdoor fabrics store. [link] (scroll down for several varieties)

But now that I think about it, watertight doesn't necessarily mean airtight so that might not work as well as I think, but it could be worth looking into.

A google search shows a lot of inflatable cubes out there you could look into and build a plushie casing for..

You get the prize for the BESTEST IDEA EVAR!!!!!!!!

I now think that I might be able to have a highly portable cube, with it being inflatable and then probably some structural foam pieces as well. I've already made the inside bubble, I just need a good valve to put on it so it's easyish to fill with air. There's no way I can blow that up with my lungs......

that is a VERY valid reason not to take Cube to a con... *imagines you squished and trying to drive* a VERY VERY valid reason...

Hehe, it's actually kinda a play of a Wheatley quote. I'm not sure if or where it's used in the game, but he say "You're at my mercy, but I don't have any. You're at my nothing". So since I have nothing that the cube fits in, it fits in my nothing .

NekoNariko In reply to ShellMinded [2011-07-21 20:46:44 +0000 UTC]

PC/Mac xBox and PS3. I prefer PC/Mac, as 3rd person shooters are hard for me on consols.

hrmmm do you think it would work on a Macbook pro? i haven't tried PC gaming yet because i'm not sure of my comp's capacity. and as for the other consoles, all i have is a ps2 and a wii

NekoNariko In reply to ShellMinded [2011-07-21 22:14:42 +0000 UTC]

Hmm, not sure about the graphics capabilities of Macs. I used to use them, grew up on them, but I switched 10 years ago. But based on my 20 second google search, it looks like they might have good enough chips. The nice thing about steam games though is that you can play them on any computer once you buy them, as long as you have access to the internet.
