Thank you!

Geez, I don't understand those people who think that evolution is true, when it's not even a fact, it's a blotted lie.

As someone who is currently doing her bachelor in biology I'm very interested in knowing why you believe it to be a blotted lie rather than a proven fact?

Derroflcopter In reply to pantheratigris10 [2014-08-24 19:29:02 +0000 UTC]

It's been proven beyond most doubt, and the only people that doubt it do so because they were told a different story when they were younger.

You can't prove that I'm not a robot or an extremely smart raccoon, or if I even exist, but you can say because of the evidence presented to you that I'm a human and I exist. Science's job isn't to prove anything 100%. It's to analyze evidence and, from that evidence, draw conclusions about how nature works. The theory of evolution is currently, by far, the most evidentially supported explanation for how life came to be as it is.

I don't appreciate being called 'jacked up'.
Obviously, you haven't been exposed to any evidence for evolution. That or you're just trolling.
For your information, in over 150 years since the discovery of natural selection we have been able to explore the deepest realms of biology and genetics and prove time and time again that evolution is an irrefutable fact. In fact, the evolutionary decent of humanity if one of the most complete, with thousands of specimens spanning dozens of species dating back to over six million years ago.

im not trying to educate anyone im just giving my opinion and evolution is a theory (scientist still figure out what the platypus "evolved ' from plus people who don't believe in God just have there simple thoughts to believe in(in my opinion)dude im 14 and I know better about this than you so go ahead use big words to try and make you self sound smarter but but this whole conversation is going to end with me sayingΒ  im sorry for you

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

TheSandvich In reply to pantheratigris10 [2015-02-07 20:16:38 +0000 UTC]

You are giving your opinion, I am giving fact. If you want to try to persuade me, you need to educate me about your opinion. So far, you have presented no evidence for the existence of a God or the credibility of the Bible, instead you have simply repeated recycled arguments criticizing science that have been disproven countless times over.

For example, the definition of 'theory' as used in science is different from the one used in everyday conversations. In science, a theory is an idea that is backed up by evidence. In everyday conversation, a theory is just an idea. I hope the difference is clear. If you are still unsure, please take two seconds to look it up in the dictionary.
Evolution is a theory like gravity is a theory, and you don't see people jumping off skyscrapers because it's "just a theory".

Actually, scientists have determined that the platypus branched off from other mammals around 160 million years ago. The reason they still have certain reptile-like traits is because mammals evolved from reptiles.

I'm not trying to make myself sound smart. On the contrary, I am trying to make these complex ideas seem as simple and easy-to-grasp as possible, but claiming that you know more than others is downright arrogance.

go right ahead and ive heard when things go wrong its all oh how could God and why did he do this well it was your choice he gave you rules to follow you dont listen and what happens when you dont follow rules?i mean nobody is perfect even me another example if you take a piece of paper and lie it on a table just looking at it will it turn to something else?no someone has to make it everything has to have a creator to be made and your probably going to ask well where did God come from?well where did these random chemicals come from how do you know it was chemicals if its what to you guys millions or billions?to us (believers)the earth is around 6000 years old and if its b/m to years old how can they find fossils if it was at like the start of time wouldn't they be long gone like way gone and people since we evolved from apes are you saying people who arent smart havent Β fully evolved Β and like i said before if we did there would be no reason for women to get pregnant Β we would just have monkeys do that instead so if you want proof i would stop saying the world is Β all about science and pick up a bible (jeremiah 33:2)

TheSandvich In reply to pantheratigris10 [2015-02-08 19:22:18 +0000 UTC]

By accient? Not at all! While chance does play a small part, Natural Selection promotes non-random change over time. The way it works is quite simple: when DNA replicates itself, it usually does not make a perfect copy. There are mutations that occur, so when a new life form is born it is not exactly the same as its parents. If the new traits given to it by the mutations make it easier for that life form to survive and reproduce, then those traits are passed on to the next generation and over time you get more and more organisms with those favourable traits. Over long periods of time, those small changes add up until you get a completely new species.
This is why animals appear to be designed for their specific environment; because those of them who were better adapted to survive in that environment were the ones who survived and were able to reproduce.

So you're saying that God punishes those who don't follow his rules? Okay!
Liberia is a country in Africa. It was one of the countries that was hit the hardest by the Ebola outbreak that continues today. Liberia just happens to be 85% devout Christian. Apparently, God thinks they messed up real bad!
But you should question whether you follow God's rules or not!Β
Tell me, have you eaten seafood lately? You know, shrimp, crabs, lobsters, clams, molluscs, etc.? Well, if you have you are guilty of an abomination equivalent to homosexuality! (Leviticus 11:10)
And you'd better not be wearing clothing of two different kinds of material! If you are, that is also a sin! (Leviticus 19:19)
Maybe you're the one who should "pick up a Bible".

And the reason pieces of paper don't turn into other things is because that's not how evolution works. Paper isn't alive.

Admittedly, scientists do not know where all the matter in the universe came from, however science will honestly admit this and continue searching for answers. You can't just say "God did it" and move on, because you can't prove the existence of God.

The reason we don't find fossils from "the beginning of time" is because there were no life forms at the beginning. Earth itself wasn't formed until around 10 billion years after the universe came to be, and life forms took even longer to come into existence! Also, we are very lucky to be able to find fossils from that early time in Earth's history because the majority of the fossils created over time have been destroyed (for example, turned into oil. That's why we call them 'fossil fuels')! What we can find is only a small fraction of all the fossils ever created.

And finally, no, stupid people are not more primitive than me, they are just ignorant. The reason monkeys don't give birth to people is because again, that's not how evolution works. I've already explained that to you, so please stop bringing it up unless you are somehow not satisfied with my response.

And the reason your opinion differs from that of scientists is because you start with the Bible and assume that everything in it is correct and infallible, whereas science assumes nothing and goes off what we can observe in the world around us.

I hope that answers all of your questions.

You shouldn't be sorry! You have every right to express what you believe! If that means telling me I'm going to burn in Hell, so be it! Considering this, I also have the right to disagree with you.
Isn't free speech wonderful!?

I too apologize if at any point I accidentally offended you! My intention was not to cause an argument but rather to present you with my evidence and try to answer your questions.

I have, in fact, read a good chunk of the Bible, and I plan on reading the entire book eventually! Although getting through some of the books is pretty tedious...
After I'm done though, I also want to read other religious texts like the Koran and the Torah, simply to try to understand these belief systems.
In truth, there aren't many things that fascinate me more than religion.

I wasn't raised with any particular bias for or against any religion or belief system. My parents tried to let me decide for myself what to believe, and I'm very grateful for that. Eventually, through a lot of research and reading I came to the conclusions I still have today, but I constantly question what I believe and revisit the evidence.
In fact, I am completely open to the concept of a God, and the only reason I don't believe in one is because of the lack of evidence.Β So if at any point you can bring forth satisfactory evidence, you will change not only me, but the entire scientific community forever!

I wouldn't reject/dismiss the idea entirely, it shows narrow mindedness. I get if some of the stuff seems unbelievable, in fact, I don't believe that everything happened exactly like scientists say it has. It's not possible to prove everything. However, I believe that there is accuracy to what they say.
