I'm gonna have to theorize now that Jon is actually a war vet whose PTSD manifests itself as an obese orange cat who enjoys lasagna, perhaps from the memory of a dead Italian squad mate who was good at making the stuff. Jon suffer's from survivor's guilt and uses the lasagna recipe constantly as a form of tribute/pennance - but having lost his legs and lower-digestive tract, this manifests in more pain, which in turn brings about the daemonic Garfield who Jon believes eats the lasagna instead of him as a form of punishment...
