Description
I'm no expert on Aussie types and colors, but this is a general idea of what I gathered from the internet of typical coloring. I don't know what's "breed standard" or if all of these types are "showable" but I don't care, I just thought it would be fun to do this. Of course these patterns vary a LOT too!I love the variety in their eyes! They commonly have two different color eyes and even marbling!
Despite the name, Australian Shepherds were not developed in Australia, but are believed to have been developed in the United States to herd Australian sheep!
These dogs are extremely high energy and need hours of exercise a day. Arceo is almost seven years old and still acts like he did when he was a puppy. I have an active lifestyle, Arceo comes with me to work every day, gets two 1 mile walks a day, goes to the dog park, comes sailing with us and much more! Dogs are a huge part of my life and work, so I have more time than the average individual to care for him and keep him stimulated.
I brush my Aussie with a slicker brush 5-7 times a week and still have fur all over my carpet!
Basically they require a LOT of care and attention! They are EXTREMELY intelligent and can get bored really easily. That makes it typical for them to become defensive of territory and destructive to your home if not properly trained and kept busy! If you are thinking of getting one of these dogs, make sure they fit your life style!
Red tri is my favorite

Gorgeous! One small correction: the one you called blue merle with white is called a blue bi, and the one you called a tan point blue merle is called a blue merle.

The four colors are blue, black, red, and red merle. All of these with or with out white or tan. Dogs of singular color are referred to as a self color. (So self color black, blue, red, red merle.) Bi's are called blue bi, black bi, red bi, and red merle bi. On rare occasions you can run into blondes, harlequins, and tweeds.
Any color Aussie can have any color eyes including complete or partial heterochromia. (Partials are more commonly known as "marbles" but the technical term is heterochromia.)
Aussies were actually developed in California specifically.
Aussies are NOT a hyper breed. They are meant to be good drive with all day energy but when the "boss" says quitting time they should be content to loaf around. And lots of exercise is recommended but depending on a person's personal schedule this can be difficult. The worst Aussie is not an unexercised Aussie but in fact a bored Aussie. If you don't want a dog that can outsmart you, don't get an Aussie because they can and will, especially when bored. This can make them just as or more destructive than some of the known destructive breeds such as Huskies.
Aussies are double coated and thusly "blow coat" twice a year, meaning their undercoat falls out. A good brushing a couple times a week and cold water bathes every six weeks from the age of six months on help reduce shedding. If they're blowing a warm water bath will help remove most of the undercoat but otherwise, avoid warm water after six months of age.
These are velcro dogs so if you don't want a constant shadow, don't get one. But if you want a loving loyal companion that will do as you ask til they drop dead, once properly trained, then this is a great dog.

Oh wow. It's hard to believe Arceo is almost 7!!! Aussie Shepherds are absolutely wonderful. I always wondered if it was normal for them to have "marbled" eyes. One of my uncle's puppies has a blue eye with a random brown spot. <3
