Very nicely done indeed. Your (A)D&D art never ceases to amaze me, not to mention send me on a trip down the memory lane.
Somehow I doubt that mage can cast Stone to Flesh, so getting him back might prove to be not only costly but also involve some difficult hauling him into the next major city.

Why are basilisks always represented with 6 or 8 legs? It's not a criticism, it's just a trend that I've seen in many depictions of this monster and I find it very curious.

Likely because the (A)D&D Monster compendiums state a basilisk has 8 legs.
