Description
This drawing took a really long time to get done, but I am actually quite satisfied with the way it turned out. This is supposed to represent the eternal question that I continue to ask: is artificial intelligence the same as actual intelligence. While I originally decided that it would not, I have begun to realize that intelligence, natural or not, would produce the same result of independent thought. Independent thought being the characterizing feature of humans over other animals, this would cause one to be human in at least the mental sense of the definition.
If anyone wishes to argue this point with me, I shall be glad to oblige.

Think "Ghost in the Shell." I doubt we could ever create intelligence as intelligent as humans, and even if we did, a robot still possesses no soul, thus it could not know the difference between good and evil. Even still, programmers are always going to have a failsafe of some type.
Creating something that's smarter than us.... would be both impossible and stupid, in that order.

Intelligence is simply the capacity to learn, and if AI ever reaches the level of humans some people may begin to argue that they are human.
As far as religious ideals, I do not believe in the existence of a soul, as no scientific evidence has been produced to prove the idea.
But, the arguments of whether AI counts as true intelligence will likely start on a small scale, such as wether or not a robot would count as a living being. It's a good ways off from now, but it may be a problem to be faced.

Well, alrighty then. Me, I say that what we call "consciousness" is our soul, and we have to have one or we would have no personal identity, and we'd all be, well, robots.
There again, I'm not one to get into heated debates about, anything really, and whatever you believe is fine by me.

Then I suppose we are simply in agreement to disagree.

I'm good with that! I hate folks who hate folks just because they don't see eye-to-eye....

Well, I can see that this argument has some elements that could cause an endless and futile debate.

reminds me of I, robot or the Animatrix. Though I do not wish to discuss it, as I have no stance on the issue. Usually we when make A.I. in movies, the human race gets wiped out.

Yes, kind of like I, Robot. And, in most GOOD science fiction humans aren't mindlessly killed for no reason. Ideally, the pros and cons of developing AI are discussed. The Matrix, I Robot [moreso the book], Outlaw Star, Big O, and others are good examples of this.

I didn't say I, robot was a good example, ie: mindless killing of humans, but it is an example where creating AI causes our destruction. Ex: The Matrix, Terminator, etc.

I, Robot and The Matrix are great examples, but Terminator is pretty mindless.

I, Robot's entire basis is whether or not the artificial intelligence of robots counts as actual intelligence and, therefore, makes them human.

Terminator is a good movie, but it doesn't explore the pros and cons of AI. The second one kind of does that, but neither of them really explore the ideas: they're more action-oriented than intellect-oriented.
